Dobbins has also unfollowed vawter. I think she committed to SC yesterday. I hate to wonder if she was ready to commit to UF but SC offered more money. I believe I read Florida softball get $100,000 total. which isn't a lot at all. The good news is I believe we are getting more NIL money coming in. If true that's probably going to help us out a lot.
Now the question is. who else remains in the portal. I know Clopton isn't available anymore. but that's all I know.
I’m tired boss. Just ready for this years portal to be over with and hopefully to never be this desperate for pitching again.
Most teams carry 5-7 pitchers, so even if we get a badly needed vet like Maxwell, our staff has got to start locating the potential up and comers, that can hopefully develop behind the starters, into future stars.
If he doesn’t pick up anyone now, he will have to hope he can get someone(s) in the fall. I hope he doesn’t try to persuade a recruit from next year’s class to join the team early.
The rumor of money is 100% true. She received a minimum of $50,000 and if my inside source is correct it got upped another $10,000 when they thought she was going to go to UF anyway. Short term gain for her when she would have made a whole lot more in the future here. Hope we light her a-- up when she pitches her next year and we can all sing the the song "I Got Money, Lots and Lots of Money!" or Money, money, money - Money!
Guess we know she didn't really actually want to come here then except for money if a difference of 10k more made her fully decide on SC. Hate NIL so much. If NIL has to be a thing it needs to be standardized.
I hate NIL as well, but that is today's reality and UF is behind the curve in catching up, IMO. We lost Storako to Oklahoma last year under similar circumstances. But losing Vawter to South Carolina just shows that other schools are willing to play the NIL game to get the players they want and need more so than we are. I don't think Tim Walton could have done any more than he did, but it seems to me that, as one of the softball blue blood programs, we simply don't have the NIL money that many other schools do. And losing out to South Carolina, especially in the dire pitching situation we're in, is not good and in some ways is embarrassing. I know I'm opening myself up to ridicule here, but that's what I think at the moment. Just hope we don't lose Maxwell for the same reasons.
UF doesn’t set a cap on what’s available for UF softball NIL. The fans on here that have been losing their minds for the last few months are responsible for footing the bill. If that’s the number they set, that’s on them.
