I can get on board with that. Seems like a no brainer.

Still not sure how to solve the issue the OP has though.

Lots and lots of surveillance. Sounds like we need Food Stamp Police.

You cannot purchase a sub made by Publix at the deli but you can buy the ingredients and make your own.

You cannot buy any paper goods, tobacco products, or alcohol.

The nation would be a better place if they just stopped selling cigarettes.

Or if entitled people stopped whining about what impoverished folks are buying with their own cash.

In the early days of the welfare program were not actual commodities given? For example, floor, sugar, rice, potatoes, etc were handled out in bulk. I was very young then but seem to recall that.

I don't care what they buy with their own money. I also wasn't suggesting cigarettes should be banned, simply that I wished they would no longer be sold. Arguing there is some benefit to society from people smoking cigarettes is slightly reminiscent of arguing slavery provided some benefit to the slaves.

My best friend, a former 25 year smoker with Stage 4 cancer, just started the first human trials of an experimental cancer therapy today as he was no longer responding well to chemo. While no one forced him to smoke, I'm not currently feeling warm and fuzzy thoughts about the tobacco industry.

probably. it is horrifically inefficient. We have 100m, let's transfer 50m of it & use the rest for idiotic bureaucracy. Oh, & then maybe 25m ends up consumed as food after the tedious conversion of cheese to booze process has played out. sounds like gov

Good question... It's pretty easy. Regulated with IDs. When you get food stamps, your ID would prohibit the purchase of tobacco and alcohol.

For "poor people", or people that choose to be poor, it's not specifically about them. It's about people who choose to receive food stamps.

I know some people have issues with certified restrictions on your ID. However, if you choose to bring the government into your life to pay for your loving expenses. You also choose the requirements that go along with the benefit of tax dollars paying your expenses.

OMG. no 1 whose ID prohibits alcohol & tobacco ever gets those items. :emoji_nerd: Gee, they should make our IDs restrict the purchase of fentanyl, crack, heroin, etc.

So, they may be criminals then. You make it easy. They go to jail along with the crackhead.

Of course, and with all due respect, that's not the subject at hand.

    OK, more ridiculous deflection.... sigh

For enforcement, it's simple again. Anyone caught defrauding the restrictions gets a lifetime ban on food stamps and other Welfare.
