Yep, and add to that that every defense knew they were going to pass the ball and he still almost had a 60% completion percentage? That's gives me a new perspective on his skills as a passer.

I wouldn’t take too much from the spring game either. It seemed apparent to me that the game was set up to highlight the defense and gather excitement for Armstrong. When have you ever seen so many blitzes in a spring game? As for AR, he lost me when he said “it’s sports, you win some and you lose some” after the Vandy loss.

    Inside your head.
CBN is going to throw the ball on first, second and third downs so Mertz won't be predictable as he was at Wiscy. In addition the Gator Oline is huge and talented this year and we have a loaded RB room. If the Oline gels Mertz is going to have a lot of options and could have a big year. Let's hope it happens.

You wanted him to stick around so he could be made the scapegoat for every loss again? LOL. AR is gone; time to find a new player on the roster to nitpick and blame for everything.

My concern is that, with our talented backfield, our playcalling also might be run, run, pass this year. Maybe ours will be more successful and it will be 3rd and shorts.

He never had an extremely talented passer so we will all find out together. To me, it looks like we will run and use the short passing game to set up tge deep passing game. Without a short passing game last year I think it was very limited.

I think that obviously we would have liked to see his potential develop while at UF. We were a bad team and he was very raw. If AR was a polished player we still probably only win 8 games or so. Of course any gator would have wanted to see what AR could been as a polished player leading a playoff caliber team. We got one year of him leading a bad team and gators should be disappointed.
Now all we can hope for is for him to prosper at a team we care nothing about. I’ll always root for him as a player but could care less about his team.

He can throw the ball and has good touch on his passes. Interceptions happen at a high rate for any qb tgat forces passes into high risk situations. Wisconsin was a lot of third and long passes. Either throw it or punt.

Slant pass on 3rd and 5, I've heard it exists. Oh wait...it's that thing completed against us all last year, right?

BINGO and this is what I am most concerned about.

We have had "the talent" every season - yet our coaching staff does not utilize them to their potential.

The play calling alone leaves much to be desired.

The last coaches we had who had their chit together were Urban and Spurs. And that is why we won those National Titles.

Hoping for the best but we'll see and we'll know after the first game with Utah what we have in our staff....

Mertz doesn’t have to be good AR, just avoid being bad AR.
