Man this thread has not aged well. Trump owns the Republican Party. Trump Crushing DeSantis and G.O.P. Rivals, Times/Siena Poll Finds Former President Donald J. Trump is dominating his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination, leading his nearest challenger, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, by a landslide 37 percentage points nationally among the likely Republican primary electorate, according to the first New York Times/Siena College poll of the 2024 campaign. Mr. Trump held decisive advantages across almost every demographic group and region and in every ideological wing of the party, the survey found, as Republican voters waved away concerns about his escalating legal jeopardy. He led by wide margins among men and women, younger and older voters, moderates and conservatives, those who went to college and those who didn’t, and in cities, suburbs and rural areas.
Well to my credit, I started this thread before Christmas... But man this pisses me off. C'mon people. I never root for health issues, but I do hope something major happens that just erases him as a possibility. Arrest, Incarceration, actual footage of him shooting someone on 5th Avenue.... Something. Please God!
It'd be one thing if the support were just getting split lots of ways and Trump had a weak plurality. But if he's really got the majority, he looks to be in even better position than he was in the 2016 primary, and it won't even matter if the others consolidate around somebody. Pretty crazy.
DJT is going to run the GOP into the ground. Now he's calling for GOP office holders who do not support his threats against Dems to get "primaried." That will lead to more Q nuts filing to run and give more bat sh-- crazy conspiracy theories to life.
It's not that I don't believe the polls, but I literally know no one who would vote for Trump over DeSantis. I'm not on FB or Twitter and realize it's a small sample size, but my golf group consists of 30+ guys and I'd estimate about 75% are R's. None will vote for Trump over DeSantis. Maybe it's because I'm in Florida, but those numbers are awful for DeSantis. I'll be voting 3rd party again for the 3rd straight election.
Yep. When you said back then that trump was irrelevant (several times) I really wished it so but alas - now all good Americans will need to vote for Biden again.
Trump has great charisma … for a third grader. And yet with all of his lies, pandering, megalomania, egocentric, embarrassments, I’d still vote for him over DeSantis, who might be the worst candidate for the presidency that I’ve seen in the last 30 years.
Younger and more college educated favor Desantis over Trump, and that isn't very representative of the average Republican primary voter. He's basically the Bernie Sanders/Elizabeth Warren of the GOP. Trump is the "electability" candidate.
Being in Florida I would think makes a difference here. Moreover, golf is a white collar sport - lots of well educated, country club republicans. Swing by the trailer park or Walmart on your way home from the course and ask those people who they support.
I imagine the numbers in Florida are closer than nationally, but if this is accurate, Trump is also beating DeSantis by double digits in Florida - head to head. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/07/30/desantis-trump-florida-gop-primary/ A March survey of nearly 1,500 voters living in the state by the University of North Florida found Republicans favored DeSantis over Trump by more than 30 points. DeSantis had the support of 59 percent of those questioned, compared with 28 percent for Trump. But more recent polling has consistently shown him trailing behind the former president. The most recent poll by Florida Atlantic University found that of more than 900 Republican voters questioned, 54 percent would vote for Trump if a primary were held immediately, compared with 37 percent for the governor in a one-on-one matchup.
I'd take bets that Trump doesn't beat DeSantis by double digits in FL. I get that there are too many idiots who can't see the grift going on with trump.
The funny thing is trump isn't electable. That was proven in 2020. He has zero chance in 24. And no, it's not rigged LOL.
Eh, give it another 6 months, trump will have about 27 more indictments against him. If he doesn't drop out, desantis will probably get some traction.
I think, although maybe it’s my hope, that by then someone more sane will rise to the top. Youngskin is getting significant “talk” and new money this past month. He might be waiting for the perfect time to thrown his hat on.
