Saw someone describe Desantis as "the male Hillary Clinton" which I think is spot on. Good on paper but unlikeable and out of touch as a person.

He's done the unthinkable. My mom sez she won't vote for him. A year ago she loved him. He has no sense of degree or optimality & is devoid of nuance. Good lord. last night in Iowa at his little meet & greet, people could throw baseballs at Bud Light cans.

Thanks for the link. The full exchange:

"GABE GUTIERREZ: With all due respect, Governor, you’re down by 30 points, though.

GOV. RON DESANTIS: (PAUSE) Well, no, I mean, that… Says you! I mean, I can tell you, we’ve been in Iowa. I’m the one showing up at all these places. We’re signing up people day after day here in Iowa."

The debates are going to be priceless.

DeSantis had to sit there while Trump trashed him after DeSantis said nothing about Trump. How humiliating. Hardly any of the Repub candidates have the courage to take on Trump directly, which disqualifies them for the presidency. If you can't stand up for yourself against Trump, how are you going to stand up for the country against the likes of Putin and Xi?

Mr. Trump not only suggested that Mr. DeSantis was an “establishment globalist” but called him “DeSanctis,” which in Mr. Trump’s argot is short for the demeaning nickname DeSanctimonious and is so well-known that most attendees clearly got the reference. “I wouldn’t take a chance on that one,” Mr. Trump joked.

The crowd of more than 1,200, which had warmly welcomed Mr. DeSantis when he spoke earlier, laughed and applauded throughout Mr. Trump’s riffs.

In contrast, Mr. DeSantis hadn’t mentioned the former president at all.

DeSatan in bid to save cash makes generous offer to potential staffers.

DeSantis Offers Campaign Staff Opportunity to Work for Free in Exchange for Invaluable Skills

Let’s say you hand out flyers for the campaign,” he said. “With that on your résumé, you could snag a coveted position handing out flyers for a nail salon. Or say you’re in the back room of the campaign office, licking envelopes—someday you could get a job licking any number of things.”

He’s now come out saying if elected, he’ll pardon Trump. That alone ought to disqualify him by all but the most rabid MAGAaphiles.

Future DeSantistan, Magyar edition. Demented types keep trying to suggest you are protecting children when you are just dealing with your own lizard brain issues of inadequacy

“I consider this such a level of discrimination. This law is an act of force that can hardly be made sense of,” Redai said. “As someone who’s been in this business for such a long time, even I cannot decide which books fall under the ban.”

Hungary’s government under populist Prime Minister Viktor Orban has in recent years taken a hard line on LGBTQ+ issues, passing legislation that rights groups and European politicians have decried as repressive against sexual minorities.

A “child protection” law, passed in 2021, bans the “depiction or promotion” of homosexuality in content available to minors, including in television, films, advertisements and literature. It also prohibits the mention of LGBTQ+ issues in school education programs, and forbids the public depiction of “gender deviating from sex at birth.”

Hungary’s government insists that the law, part of a broader statute that also increases criminal penalties for pedophilia and creates a searchable database of sex offenders, is necessary to protect children. But it is seen by Orban’s critics as an attempt to stigmatize lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, and conflate homosexuality with pedophilia.

I still believe that the Crist-run election was the worst campaign I have ever seen. He didn’t even try, and it pulled the entire ticket downstream. I’m not sure whether Florida is truly significantly “redder,” as much as the Democratic Party was grossly inept.

Think about this. DeSantis’ entire platform circles around his War of Hate. His “woke” war is literally aimed at half the population. Yet, isn’t the President supposed to be the leader of an entire country?!?!

Yep, and his campaign logo is 'Never Back Down'. It should be 'Never Back Down Except Against Trump Because I'm Too Scared To Confront Him'.

Listened to this again and read the book (all of 51 pages). The Florida history standards are really inaccurate. They wrongly portray Florida as largely similar to the 13 colonies politically, when it was anything but.

Settled earlier, different economy, devastated by British brutality in Queen Anne’s War at the beginning of the 1700s, loyal to the Crown in the Revolutionary War and afterwards.

St. Augustine was extremely multicultural with freed armed blacks at Fort Mose, along with natives, mainly Seminoles, who together were the first line of defense, original Underground Railroad enticing freed slaves so long as they would convert to Catholicism, later a substantial Minorcan community that survives to this day along with the first Greek Orthodox community in NA in New Smyrna (hence the name).

    So much more.

DeSantis’ Florida history is really an attempt to create a false history. Florida was different.

Are you a woke, T.J.? Higher insurance rates are simply the price you pay to live in the free state of Florida. But wokes like you wouldn't understand sacrifice.

Knew this was coming, but still so sad to see.

“Florida is toxic,” noted Nunn, one of the few Black members of the (UF) law school faculty who says he chose to retire last January in part because of the legislated ban on the teaching of critical race theory. “It has been many years since we last hired an entry-level African American faculty member. They’re just not interested in being in a place where something with the stature of critical race theory is being denigrated and attacked.”

The 65-year-old Nunn will be teaching law in the fall in Washington DC as a visiting professor at Howard University, one of the nation’s leading historically Black colleges and universities.

“I could have stayed in a place where I’m not wanted and tough it out,” he adds. “Or I could retire and look for work elsewhere.”

In the end, Nunn says, concerns about his professional career and even his own physical safety made that decision a relatively easy one."
