Didn’t mean it as an insult. Sorry dude. The lack of inflection in my voice is probably more problematic. The written word is not my strong suit.
I don’t like trying to explain myself when I find that I’m so far apart from a poster.
I don’t have enough self belief in my writing.
I disagree with you on the point though. The numbers do not matter at all.

Thank you for this. I appreciate your honesty.
FWIW, it's not only a problem for you and the written word but all of us. It's an inherent problem w/the medium.

While true enough. Some here are much better than others at writing.
I’ve always been impressed with those who can write.
    I’m more of a talker.

I hear ya. And coming at it from a crime statistics perspective, I agree that the numbers matter. I just don't understand why folks on Too Hot are intent to quibble about the accuracy of numbers, when such arguments open one up to the kind of inane accusation that our friend bluke makes. To each their own, but it's not the fight I'm interested in taking up.

I appreciate you acknowledging that you took it too far. Regardless of who the poster is though, making such a claim should be out of bounds. I think you know that.

So there are different estimates. That’s what happens when they don’t have accurate data. The sad part is the US doesn’t actually know how many kids are trafficked each year. But your whole issue in this thread is that the estimates are too high. You have ZERO idea what’s the right number. Neither do I. But minimizing trafficking is a crap thing to do, but not surprising.

Disagree, and I also disagree with your numbers not mattering.
It is a serious issue that doesn’t deserve to turn into a circus. If 90% of the numbers are over here, but we focus on the 10% because of rhetoric, what are the chances for success?
The problem to me is acceptance of the issue, ie that child abuse is everywhere, much like domestic violence. We all want the mythical evil organization that we can attack, vs the 1000’s of sick fuchs running around in every city.

I remember a conversation a couple decades ago with a child abuse, sexual and significant abuses, who was distraught. In talking with her, she had not had a victim who was old enough to speak in two years. Perpetrators were almost always family and friends, many who were covered for.

When we started talking millions smuggled in for satanic purposes, well you know my opinion on that.

The real data is out there, read the entire studies and compare them across other studies. Many law enforcement agencies also publish their data. As always, it is only as good as what is reported to them.

Child abuse is terrible, focus on what we know.

He claimed that another poster was defending sex trafficking. He was wrong.

Good points. Sucks sometimes to have to contend with insults but it is too hot and having been posting here for 14yrs sans several mental health breaks, kind of used to it so I try not to let it get to me or derail discussion. :)

Meant to address the bolded earlier

Let me briefly take the discussion away from child-sex trafficking for a moment and come at crime victimization as individuals in terms of our risk. If we don't have accurate statistics on [insert x crime here], then we cannot accurately determine the parameters of crime, which then inhibits our ability as individuals to properly determine our risk of victimization. This is a problem when it blinds us to risks to our safety that might actually be high and vice versa, causes needless and often irrational worry about risks that might actually be extremely low. In turn, this can be a significant detriment to mental & physical health and well-being, unnecessarily altering how we live our lives. Scale that up from individual to the public at large...and you can see how it can be a social problem w/widespread negative consequences.

I see your point. We should never accuse someone of something they don’t believe. But I’m curious. Did you also push back like this in the black history curriculum thread, where some people were accused of supporting slavery, which was not at all what they were arguing?

If someone made the claim that other posters support slavery, that was probably wrong too, but we get to push back on the things we choose. ;) Not my job to push back on every outrageous insult.
