@woollybooger Not only do we have a major black conservative group denouncing this, we also haveblack conservatives in Washington doing the same. Why do you think that is?

GOP congressman calls on Florida to 'correct' Black history standards on slavery

Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., on Wednesday called on the state Education Department to "correct" its new standards for teaching Black history after it suggested that slaves benefited from skills used in forced labor.

"The new African-American standards in FL are good, robust, & accurate," Donalds tweeted. "That being said, the attempt to feature the personal benefits of slavery is wrong & needs to be adjusted. That obviously wasn’t the goal & I have faith that FLDOE will correct this."

Most of the members of the work group were Florida teachers. They opposed the language in the standards. Before anyone says “why be anonymous” it’s because they are afraid of reprisals, which is stock in trade for this administration.

Most of Florida work group did not agree with controversial parts of state's new standards for Black history, members say

While it is true that SOME former slaves became successful, the vast majority did not and that isn’t addressed in the standards. It’s the old “look they did it, why can’t you” while ignoring the obstacles that were purposely put in their way.

No need to address the fact that a lot of what was put in example/explanation was straight up inaccurate as that has been explained earlier upthread.

Still waiting on you to explain how Fl is whitewashing the Jim Crow laws. Point out in the curriculum please. Otherwise I assume you will edit your post saying that.

What's so distressing about the so-called debate is that the answer is just so obvious. You don't put that in as a standard to be taught, among many potential facts, unless you are trying to misrepresent the reality of the deep Injustice of slavery. There is really no argument to the contrary. It's embarrassing that it's even a debate, much less one joined by so many powerful people stating obvious Orwellian untruth

Wow, it took some guts to be anonymous…

If they felt strongly speak up. Be a leader. I don’t believe this at all. Sounds like they are covering their asses.

If you read the link at post 543, you find out that the new standards are rubbish.

Sounds like the boys in Tally think slavery was just an early job training program.

That’s your take from one line item from 190 parts of a curriculum? Wow, that’s some in depth thinking there…

The fact that GOP leaders wont revise that point specifically should speak volumes to you. Way more than the parts of the curriculum that you think are not racist.

I'm curious, you were for the AP African studies program, why? Because that course was going to teach pretty much the same thing but I didn't hear a peep out of you for that. Wonder why...

Playing politics. Easy answer. You fell for it.

So you don’t want them to revise it?

I am for them revising it or telling teachers to disregard that bullet point. Not hard to do.

Not hard to do but they won't do it. And there's many other things they need to remove from the curriculum. There's lots of stuff about indentured servitude, slavery in Africa, and the Georgia penal colony in there. None of that belongs in a course on African American studies. Those are all things that have been brought up over the years by people wanting to minimize the atrocity of race-based hereditary chattel slavery in America. They might as well have included this meme in the curriculum:
