Thank you. And most lawyers also wear long pants and a tie when skipping to work.

So the executive summary here is former presidents can never be held accountable for any criminal activities because you will make some of the voters angry?

The civil war started with States voting to leave the Union then they attacked a federal military institution with a state militia. It was not started by an insurrection. We’ve had plenty of insurrections by idiots. The last one was on Jan 6.

    (1) Jan 6 was not an insurrection by any definition of the word. (2) why do you assume a civil war involves state actors? It doesn’t….until they get drawn in. The civil war has already started, not with repeated gun fire, but with ideas. It’s been percolating since about 2010. Intolerance is the fuel. This message board is a microcosm of it. My op is just predicting how the fuse gets lit.

    You’re Welcome.

You think the tension in this country is anywhere near the civil rights drama that had Mississippi Burning? Or the constant state of animosity between youth and the government over Vietnam that led the state military to gun down 13 students at Kent State killing 4? Meh. I dont think you are much of a student of history. Most of the right wing angst comes from people like you who simply think politics is a game and like playing in make believe on election fraud and deep state nonsense. None of them, or you, believe the nonsense with enough conviction to actually roll off your couch and do anything. It's entertainment. The UFO hearings? Entertainment. The hearings on IRS whistleblowers? Entertainment. Trump rallies? Entertainment. Nothing more.

An insurrection is defined as "a violent uprising against an authority or government". If you don't think what happened on January 6 wasn't close to an insurrection you can always ask the Capitol or Metropolitan DC police officers who were attacked by Trump's MAGA mob. I guess a more accurate description of the events of January 6 would be a "self coup d'état" defined as an attempt by a leader, having come to power through legal means, tries to stay in power through illegal means. In any event what occurred on January 6, 2021 was a (fortunately failed) attempt by a defeated president to subvert the Constitutional peaceful transfer of power to his rightfully elected opponent, the first time an event of that nature has occurred in American history.

I absolutely do. The intolerance is much higher today, and lawfulness is mocked. The last 3 Presidents have stroked the civil rights stuff near the point of the 60s.(see BLM). What makes 2023 different than all of your examples is that the focus of the anger in the 60s and 70s was primarily the state. Today it is primarily on your neighbor. Keep your head in the sand, what could possibly happen.

Kill Bill was entertainment; Call of Duty is entertainment. So what makes you think there is a dichotomy between violence and entertainment? That’s also part of the problem here. People are getting numb to violence.

I think shooting dead an unarmed woman is not the violence contemplated by your definition. If you think Trump is responsible for the actions of people on January 6, then you must have also called for Bernie Sanders arrest for the acts of James Hodgkinson. Link your post here so I can congratulate you for not being a hypocrite.

that would be a good child summary, so you nailed it. The adults in the room have a little more education and thus a deeper understanding. Keep trying…you’ll get there.

Mitch McConnell disagrees. He called it a “violent insurrection”

Sen. Mitch McConnell rebukes RNC, calls Jan. 6 'violent insurrection'

Lincoln preserved the Union in the same way a man stalks his disgruntled wife, beats her to within a half inch of her life and drags her back home.

    Union preserved!
