Gators HC Billy Napier Keen On Maintaining Play Calling Duties From the article: Outsiders murmured for potential change at the offensive play-calling helm to benefit both Napier — allowing him to be more attentive to the situational responsibilities falling into a head coaches shoulders — and the offense as a whole. The suggestion seemingly made its way into the halls of the Gators football facility earlier this offseason. But, at 2023 SEC Media Days, Napier shut down the idea of doing so, at least for the time being. "I think it's a relevant question," Napier said candidly when asked about potentially relinquishing the duties. "I do think it’s part of the evaluation to some degree. But I feel confident in our process. "I like having my hand on the scripts, the installation, that process. I think I can help establish our identity and personality as a team through that process. I think if you get too far away from that, I think there could be some things from a sustainable, repeatable part." * * * * * Interesting. I'm frequently finding that Coach Napier's directness and honesty is somewhat reminiscent of a former great coach we had in the 1990s.
He will need help with the "housekeeping" in games... like game clock and play-clock stuff. Now we get to see the real Napier in games.
I guess once you have a really good roster you can call a run play up the gut and get substantial yardage. You can call a pass play and get a first down, and sometimes you can get on the goal line and blow it all with a clock management blunder. But...right now let's hope he can handle the play-calling effectively. It will be obvious if he can't. Here's to the staff and players having a quantum leap this year. I wouldn't light the torches and head to the monsters mansion just yet. He is building the perfect beast-and still in the assembly stage. I'm hoping and praying he can put it all together and surprise Gator Nation this year. Only a few weeks away...Very exciting. Grill in the Ville...epic Go Gators
