Good for you, when in doubt, insult, it works sometime. My education was so good I continued to learn for years later, just as I was taught. It appears today that students are now being indoctrinated to believe whatever the establishment wants them too. We were taught to question most things, but keep learning every day. It has worked for me, some posters on here might like to try it.

I’m curious, when was the last time you had kids in our schools to know what is being taught and how it’s being taught? I’m asking because this is exactly something my 87year old father said recently. When I asked him which of his grandchildren, or great grandchildren, he thought was being indoctrinated, he admitted none (and they are spread out all over the Southeast). It slipped that he heard it on Fox.

Speaking of indoctrination, were you taught to question how Blacks were treated 70 years ago? Seems like not too many White folks in the south were taught to question that. Seems like they were indoctrinated that it was ok.

I suppose anything is possible, but what we know with 100% certainty, Fox was caught lying to its viewers, caught knowing it was misleading its viewers, and has been punished for lying to its viewers.

I also know that I read a good cross section of news from multiple courses, and I’m neither a Democrat nor a Republican (and most certainly nit a MAGA).

And so I feel pretty confident that I’m not the one indoctrinated, but again, anything is possible.

I’m not going to name-call, but here is your first post, verbatim, with the text bold-faced. When you wrote that you “didn't have the stomach to read this whole thread, so after a few pages I just skipped to the back,” I took your words at face value. (Your post was#389)

Forgetfulness is rampant with octogenarians even those who aren’t senile.

People who are actually smart and continue to learn every day, learned all of that years ago. I am fully aware of problems during the 60's through the 90's, having said that I am of the opinion we were past it when the left started bringing it all back up to divide us. Unfortunately, they have succeeded in their efforts it appears.

The Left is not trying to teach our children that slavery benefitted the slaves. Do you really think that is a lesson that should be taught? Even if it is true that (forced) skills were developed during slavery (duh), do you think that is something that a child should takeaway from the slavery lesson?

You missed my original point, which is my fault and not yours. I should have expressed it better. The one thing that I want to make sure is clear is that I’m not trying to pick a fight with you.

I was just responding to this, specifically about your claim that 'students are now being indoctrinated to believe whatever the establishment wants them too':

Do you think you were indoctrinated when you were young to think that racism was ok? Did they teach you about all the bad stuff White people had done to Black people when you were in school?

There you go again. That was a small excerpt from the curriculum that has been explained by the author in full, yet to you the whole thing is therefore worthless. I disagree, but you already know why.

Have you considered that you felt "past it" because you were never harmed by it and that the people who were harmed don't feel "past it"? Have you considered that what's actually dividing us is people who refuse to reckon with our sins and demand that nobody else talk about them?
I'm going to say with confidence that students are far less likely to be indoctrinated and far more likely to receive a quality education today than they were during Jim Crow.

I read through it. A lot of it's pretty bad, not just the part about slaves learning skills they could use. It's clear what the agenda is.

how do you know what your claiming is omitted? Did you get a copy of a school’s syllabus? Post it! I see the standards and they appear to be very broad, not specific. SS.68.AA.1.4 as a likely topic point to include your point. But you have a specific syllabus so prove me wrong

Where in this entire thread is there a suggestion to toss the entire curriculum?!?!?! The outrage is over the”small excerpt,” as you all it. That’s what this thread is about. And you haven’t responded to the question— Do you really think that our kids should be taught that there was a benefit to the slaves from slavery? Even if it is true that (forced) skills were developed during slavery (duh), do you think that is something that a child should takeaway from the slavery lesson?

I know it is omitted from the 216 page social studies standards document that is the topic of this thread. Hopefully teachers will go off script and teach that it was illegal to teach slaves how to read and other truths. But it is not in the standards document, though slaves learning beneficial skills is.
