Any suggestion that slavery was in any way beneficial to those enslaved is beyond ignorant. talk about spinning bullshit!

this is short-sited nonsense. The most horrifying experiences still provide wisdom, humility and understanding.

I was diagnosed with Cancer at 19. Before my treatment I was told the radiation and chemo would prevent me from fathering children. After treatment I was told I would be dead in 6 months. I was lab tested and I was sterile due to the treatment.

My cancer sucked. It was my prison at 19 and my master of my fears for the next 10 years. But that experience made me a much better man. I enjoy life like no other. I see everything differently.

That 6 month death sentence was 40 years ago. And I fathered 3 kids the natural way. ;^). From that I learned (1) that opinions are like A-holes; and (2) F the machine. Live your life like it ends tomorrow.

moral of my story and the millions like me: don’t tell me I have to walk around with my head down and my hand out. I wasn’t a victim of cancer, cancer was a victim of me. You can face the worst thing imaginable and turn it into a positive. Everything around you is a positive if you have the right attitude and perspective.

slavery in all forms is disgusting but it has existed since the dawn of time, like cancer. Many positives have come out of U.S. “slavery”, including the 1st…which was the ending of slavery. People banded together and died in order to end slavery. Horrible war, but it shows you the moral strength of our young nation….the best Nation that ever existed.

the primary fallacy in your position is that you believe that bad and good are mutually exclusive. They are not. I hope you can change your perspective.

My experience with cancer has been similar in some ways. I remember you regularly posted on The Pub quite a bit some years back. Come over and add your story to this thread.

Leave your politics simmering on the Too Hot back burner for a while. Come over and add your story about kicking cancer to the curb. Your contributions would be welcome.

yeah, I used to love it over there. You may remember I had a major scare 15 years ago where my new Doc said my chest X-ray had indications of several tumors and I needed an immediate cat scan. I had to wait 5 days to get the cat scan and posted for prayers in the Pub. It worked! Great group over there. Turned out the X-ray just showed a bunch of scar tissue from my radiation. Worst 5 days ever.

I will pop over to the pub tomorrow. Thanks for the invite/reminder.

I didn't have the stomach to read this whole thread, so after a few pages I just skipped to the back and agree with what you posted. The curriculum was written to teach young kids what slavery was, why it occurred at all and how it was ended. I believe they also explored the years of jim-crow as well. To make DeSantis and the state of Florida look bad, they took one sentence and twisted it so they could have headlines attacking him as well as my state. The authors explanation of what he meant in writing that will be ignored so that those that choose to believe these headlines will continue to do so, and that includes an awful lot of posters on too hot. If you want to believe the worst, you will never seek the truth.

Everything DeSantis does makes him look bad and this is no exception.

He neither wrote it nor promoted it, but he naturally signed it into law. As I said, those that choose to attack DeSantis will do so regardless of understanding the truth.

He appointed the people who wrote it and he's defended it. It's indefensible.

Have you actually read the curriculum, or just read that one quote and agree with the twisted interpretation of it, just asking for a friend....

Your intent is honorable, but I believe it to be a wasted effort asking that.

If you had read the thread, you would know that the curriculum was posted on this very thread. For a screen shot of the clause at issue, see post 144. If you are going to imply people don't know what they are talking about, I'd suggest reading the entire thread next time.

He'd have to be running against Mussolini for that to happen, and even then it'd be a tough choice.

What's the twisted interpretation of it? They went out of their way to add that slaves gained marketable skills by being slaves. Why add that?
