As soon as it passes lawsuits will be filed.

I particularly do not like that they want to limit a transfer for 3 years. A player's career could be over by then if stuck behind a two-deep.

If they want this then every scholarship needs to be a 3 year scholarship with a 4th and 5th year option. Also every sport should be required to give full 3 year scholarships to all athletes. No more partial scholarships.

This would protect both the athlete and the school. As they want it only the school is protected from losing a player.

Most likely true, but something had to be done. I doubt their exact formula will hold up and make it through Congress unscathed, but with luck we will get SOME sensible rules in place, which can be tweaked later.

As of now, there are NO rules, and that is not sustainable. No one knows what is legal or illegal, and unless rules are adopted, there is going to be litigation, and rules will be created on a case by case basis- which will take years. I do not think that is the right way forward. Athletic departments and coaches have no clue what is ok, and what is not.

I think Manchin and Tuberville are right to try and get some rules in place. Anyone who doesn't think rules are needed is in lala land. Manchin played college ball, and Tuberville was a college head coach, so maybe they have some ideas that will work.

The bill would also make changes to the transfer portal, requiring that student athletes complete their first three years of academic eligibility before allowing them to transfer without penalty, with few exceptions.

Typical pol overreach. NIL bill gets bloated, includes this, and requires insurance post athletics (read the link for more)

Unfunded mandate: The legislation mandates that four-year institutions provide healthcare coverage to student athletes, including insurance to athletes who are uninsured for eight years after they graduate.

Unsustainable is good. I'm rooting hard for a complete financial collapse of the system.

I support your words in principle, but Tuberville has more important work to do, such as up-or-down voting military nominees, before worrying about this kind of business.

Explain again why the NCAA was taken apart because they "sucked" and could not enforce anything? So what is happening now?

    Anybody?

I particularly enjoyed this quote from Tuberville: "But we need to ensure the integrity of our higher education system, remain focused on education, and keep the playing field level." Who is he kidding? Those ships sailed long before NIL.

I see the other side also that a schools has invested three years in a kid and although he is a depth piece, he is still valuable. The schools get no return on their investment.

I call BS. We all know schools chase kids off who aren't producing.
They are 1 year scholarships. A player should be able to leave at the end of that year.
I can compromise and say there should only be 1 transfer window at the end of the season. If a player steps away from the team before that window then they should have to sit out a year. If they fulfill the year obligation then they can transfer immediately.

So you like fee agency every year with nothing binding? I disagree, I don’t like it at all. There needs to be less chaos. I don’t like kids making a deal and jumping ship at the end of every year. I do think the kids should have a secure scholarship if they are studying, practicing, and keeping up their end of the deal.
