And the media as been moaning about what a bore Napier was in Nashville! Billy Napier is managing expectations in a new direction | GatorCountry.com
I can tell Napier wants to say more about how much he likes this team, but he is very careful not to tip his hand... winning hand. Thanks to Doctorg8r and Tommyvee for this pick-me-up info...
I think, in the short term, Napier knows the defense will need to win the games and he invested harder in that area first. Hopefully, the QB situation will be serviceable until Lagway arrives and is able to incorporate the speed of the newer recruits.
Defense isn't what it used to be. The rules changes/enforcement have lessened the ability of a defense to dictate a game like they once could. Scoring D and Total D has steadily been going up in College Football. Personally, I think that Napier has put more emphasis on D just because it was in worse shape than the O when he took over. 2022 proved that to be true....hopefully the roles won't reverse and the O gets worse while the D gets better.
It's difficult to get a feel for how well the defense will play this year. The bottom line, I think, is if the defense plays well we could have a better than expected season. It could be the difference between a seven win season or a ten win season. I can see two or three games turning on how the defense plays. It's going to be tough for some of these young defensive players to go out to Utah and compete against a veteran team with a long time winning coach. If they play well and we pull out a win it will say a lot about the toughness of this Gator team and what CBN has been able to accomplish with a year under his belt.
