I went and saw the movie last night. AMC theater was fine except for the kid at the entry wouldn’t scan my digital ticket and instead sent me to concessions. That was weird to me but I don’t go to the movies very much so maybe it is normal.

Overall thoughts on the film boiled down to this one thing: what happens after these kids get rescued. They are seriously f-ed up and no one - not Caviesel, or Ballard, or anyone is talking about how best to help these kids after they’ve been rescued. They need restoration. They need counseling. They need much more than their parents can afford to provide, and certainly much more than orphanages or whatever can provide.

NYT critic said the movie wasn’t particularly good but praised its mission.

Nutball Caviezel went on Fox today and said he was Jesus and Trump was Moses.

The left is squirming over this film because it speaks to boundaries.

Apparently there are no boundaries to the absurd things that Caviezel says he believes.

I looked on IMDb and there are two films named Cuties, both released in 2020. What is this one about? Both have terrible IMDb scores: 3.6 and an abysmal 1.7, the lowest rating I’ve ever seen.

I can’t think of a single thing Trump has done that would make me think he is a Christian. It is well documented that he couldn’t name a single Bible verse when asked, and didn’t know the rituals/responses when he occasionally showed up to a church, or said “Two Corinthians”, and at a press conference where he was waiving a Bible around, and was asked if it’s his bible, he said “it’s a bible”….

Hard to believe these Christians can’t see a fraud like this from a mile away….

I don't know how you could possibly say that when there is photographic proof of his faith:

At his town hall tonight, some woman asked him about his personal journey of faith.

What kind of an abject idiot do you have to be at this point to think Trump is even remotely religious or moral at all?

You notice how the contingent who usually cries bloody murder whenever Hollywood actors speak on politics have remained silent on Caviezel’s statement? LOL

I don’t like Trump. I never voted for him and I’ll vote against him a third time if he’s the nominee next year.

I don’t know if Trump is a true believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. Maybe he isn’t. Maybe he is, but he lets the old man rule his life (that’s a Christian theological reference). Only God knows someone’s heart.

You said you cannot think of a single thing. I can think of several things he’s done that could be called “Christian.” Those actions don’t make him a Christian any more than that would make one of us a Christian.

I laugh when people get worked up over “Two Corinthians.” That’s the way the entire British world says it. DT’s mother was a Scottish immigrant and apparently a religious woman. She would have described it like that.

    It’s this one: Cuties

The abysmal IMDB score (as well as the equally atrocious RT audience score) are mostly a product of the effort to cancel the film. Evidently, one of the tactics of canceling includes “reviewing bombing”, where the offended group floods these ratings sites with reviews that give the lowest possible scores.

I also want to make clear, though I stand by my characterization of Cuties, I am not necessarily recommending the film to everyone. It’s an indie style film that is rather heartbreaking and certainly includes some uncomfortable scenes. However, it’s also one of the rare film experiences that has really stuck with me.

My wife watched it and said the message is really good but they could have implied some of the worse stuff instead of showing it.

Perhaps, that’s not a question you or many had before the movie. I like your questions. I usually don’t consider what happens to hurricane victims 2 weeks after the news quits talking about them. This is about exposure. We would need another movie hour just to broad-stroke what happens after.

Yeah, I can certainly sympathize with your wife’s point. I don’t pretend to be a judge of the bounds of acceptable art, so I wouldnt be able to guess which version would make the best creation. I can say from having a young niece in the dance circuit that the videos thar real parents post of their own kids is closer to the dances depicted in the film than most of us would guess.

I wound up watching it, too. Young French writer and director with Senegalese parents. Story about a young Muslim girl who wants to join a dance/twerk team and fit in. If anything, I took the message as about young girls feeling pressure to grow up too fast, being sexualized, and the conflicts created by modern culture clashing with the traditional values of her family. I think it was meant to be awkward and uncomfortable, and it was - with the girls were copying moves they'd seen and likely had little appreciation of what they were doing.

I didn't like the movie very much but was a little confused by the degree of outage it created. Middle school and high school cheering dances can be twerky and suggestive, not to mention how girls are sexualized on tv and in movies all the time without any controversy.

Kind of like they did at the Comet Ping Pong pizzeria in DC, adding the qualifier that the story about the pizzeria probably predated QAnon it represented a similar mentality based on an almost identical false narrative.
In Washington Pizzeria Attack, Fake News Brought Real Guns
WASHINGTON — Edgar M. Welch, a 28-year-old father of two from Salisbury, N.C., recently read online that Comet Ping Pong, a pizza restaurant in northwest Washington, was harboring young children as sex slaves as part of a child-abuse ring led by Hillary Clinton.

The articles making those allegations were widespread across the web, appearing on sites including Facebook and Twitter. Apparently concerned, Mr. Welch drove about six hours on Sunday from his home to Comet Ping Pong to see the situation for himself, according to court documents. Not long after arriving at the pizzeria, the police said, he fired from an assault-like AR-15 rifle. The police arrested him. They found a rifle and a handgun in the restaurant. No one was hurt.
