That's a tough loss for us, but it certainly seems like the right call for Goodwin considering the circumstances.
Live or die with what we have. More importantly God speed to Kiyaunta’s mother who has cancer and best of luck to him
I don’t think the portal, but we will need some numbers on the OL. Goodwin was a big piece in our depth for 23, so we will miss that. We need to pick up a transfer for next season or a ‘24 I’m thinking.
Fairly big loss for UF, imho. Kiyaunta Goodwin no longer with Florida as former five-star OL prospect leaves program due to family hardship
Nothing but the best to Kiyaunta and his mother. Our misfortune is nothing compared to what they are enduring.
If you’re gonna sell the player experience and to use football as a platform to better one’s life situation, you can’t then turn around and sell a kid on staying on the team over spending time with his family. This is the right thing to do and it will help us moving forward if we continue to focus on the players.
Absolutely and anyone with a shred of decency acknowledges the kid and his mom's health are way more important than football or the Gators. That doesn't mean people can't lament the continued misfortune and anomalous series of bizzare variety of events that this program continues to suffer. Basketball as well. It just sucks all around.
If needs to be closer to home for personal reasons, sounds like Louisville is the new college Unclear if taking a semester or season off to focus on Mom or just the need to be closer during her care. I suppose Cincy, Indiana, Bowling Green or back to UK are options as well, if not UL. All closer to get home on weekends or when needed
Whelp...sad situation. Best wishes to him at his next landing spot. And may the Good Lord heal his Mom... Go Gators.
I don’t think we have any more than anyone else. We benefited from Bowman and Grimes for the same reason.
Yep, you win some and you lose some as far as recruiting. I just hope this kid has the ways and means to create as much space in his life as he needs. I have no idea of his his families financial situation, but the kid might have to go home and keep the lights on.
One of my customers in 1968 had a full ride to Alabama to play basketball. His dad died unexpectedly and he had to go home and take care of his younger brothers and sisters and his mom and forgo his scholarship. He went to work for Exxon on the oil rigs, and is now the head of the entire Gulf of Mexico for Exxon. I think , putting his mom ahead of himself shows a lot of character that will serve him well for the rest of his life.
As a program we have had bizarre medical issues and behavioral fiascos. Randy Russell, and the receiver Henderson that never set foot on the field because of health issues. Russell in particular was a huge blow. We had the Grier and Steele issues which were just total head scratchers. Huggins and Jones. Warrick Wilson's visa. Every team has injuries but we had that freakish year in 13 and then multiple critical losses in multiple years from qb to secondary to Dline. I could run a similar gripe with BBall. We also had two head coaches quit before coming back and then leaving again. I know I as a Gator fan scrutinize our struggles moreso than any other school but I can't recall the number of issues we have had in the 2 decades before most of these occurances started. As football fans It's ok to discuss how this loss affects the team as long as the understanding that this is what is best for the kid and his family is not lost and no resentment is expressed. Sadly, every school has those fans and some pretty selfish sentiments have been expressed in the recruiting forum as well as other websites. Some people can't help themselves. I don't blame the kid for a second for leaving and taking care of momma.
To be fair, it was really just one bonehead over there that has no perspective or self awareness… but several called him out on it.
Excellent post. It was Robinson out of Lakeland with the heart issues caught by us …along with Russell. But THANK GOD we had a medical staff that caught it. Henderson was the academic reach Mullen took to make the class look more attractive… but you are correct …it feels like the program has been snake bitten for so long, it’s hard to get excited with good news for fear of whether it’s true or not. I’ll say this. I get a strong sense that CBN is different. He has no illusions of what this job is. And I think he LOVES every aspect of the “process”. Not just drawing plays in the dirt… or just recruiting … or rubbing elbows with doners & alumni …he loves and OWNS all of it. A big difference from the others. Win or lose, he needs room to try and make it work.
