They are defending it because their midget fake governor hero said it. Nothing else matters.

That’s why they teach about Jim Crow too. And lynchings. But, you abound be happy with a program that teaches that blacks also committed acts of violence, because it fits this view and your “both sides” perception of the world. The problem with this, of course, is that slaves were treated as property, not paid for those skills, not educated to do anything but the labor the slave owners wanted them to do, raped, forced bred, killed, beaten. Saying that they were taught skills is a false narrative. They were deprived of skills and equality. And the south fought back against their freedom and equality. The Florida standards are shameful and bigoted. They present a false narrative. It is like saying that slaves benefited by being housed and fed by their owners. When you remove yourself from your tortured intellectual rationalizations, and put yourself in the place of the slave, you should be able to appreciate how disgusting these lessons really are.

No. He claims to disagree with the course and then spends post after post trying to justify it. Same thing with every issue.

They weren’t farmers. Their owners were. Slaves who worked in farms were menial laborers or maid and servants.and were denied the opportunity to be or do anything else.

Stop re-writing the curriculum to fit a false narrative. Deal with it and don’t create straw man. Oh, and slaves were out exactly into that situation. And after slavery, share cropping and Jim Crow and lynchings and burning and destroying their homes and businesses did just that.

The claim "If we're acting badly it's only because you made us" always seems like a particularly weak defense.

If it is being taught over the fact that slavery was the terrible thing that everyone agrees it was, then yes it’s a problem.

Perhaps if libbies weren’t so sensitive on the subject, we could talk about those atrocities and then show that we’ve healed since those dark days.

Left is howling because an excerpt from the curriculum says that slaves learned skills that were helpful to them after they were freed.

Same as responding with 'what a blessing' when they find out that someone's daughter is pregnant as the result of a rape.

Although it should have been obvious from my original post the fact that that enslaved persons may have acquired valuable skills is irrelevant since by and large they would never have the opportunity to market their skills in a free and open market. Including in a mandatory curriculum, the fact that slaves may have acquired skills during a period of what was permanent involuntary servitude is nothing more than an attempt to whitewash (pun intended) an indefensible institution.

I'm saying post-emancipation, duchen. No slaves owned real property during reconstruction? That never happened?

I'm not pretending that the system was fixed during reconstruction. Far from it. But a lot of you are pretending that no economic progress for Blacks happened between 1865 and 1964, which is simply absurd. It was slow, but it happened.

Depriving Black people of credit for their progress under impossible circumstances during that period is frankly insulting to them. But it goes to show a lot of leftists would rather deprive Black people of their historic success if it presents an opportunity to push a Marxist/Regressive narrative, than give Black people credit for it if it furthers a Capitalist/Conservative one.
