There are definitely contractual implications, but the devil will be in the details. I imagine CMT has a team of lawyers who they consult with before making this type of decision. If he perceives that they violated a contract, he can sue . . . and probably lose. CMT has its own right to free speech, right? That's not the case here.
in fairness, very few musicians write Their own songs, and if they do it might be one or 2 songs on the album/CD. I don’t listen to any of JAs music, But the above take is not exactly a hot one.
may be true of what you listen to. certainly not true of what I listen to. I've been to 4 concerts/7 bands in the last month including Isbell. All 7 write their own stuff. In fact, in all that there were only 3 covers played - trampled by turtles played Wildflowers & Where is my mind by other artists & last night X ended with Soul Kitchen. p.s. it took 4 writers to write this piece of shit....?????
Still a terrible take. There are plenty of very talented singers that don’t write their own songs. Very strange for someone who writes songs for other singers to say they aren’t true recording artists.
it seems relevant here for 2 reasons: 1. Aldean is not a talented singer or musician; hence, Isbell's comment exposes him as a dude who brings nothing to the table artistically 2. He's out there trying to tell folks what his song means.* In other words, shouldn't he shut up & sing? * some context. Isbell later asked how Aldean could “defend the content of a song” he wasn’t even in the room for. “You just got it from your producer. If you’d been there when it was written, you’d be listed as a writer. We all know how this works,” Isbell wrote.
Writer 1 - Let us party like we are on vacation. Repeat that over and over again. Writer 2 - change “let us” to “let’s”. Agree with repeating it over and over again Writer 3 - I think you guys nailed it when you say to keep repeating it. How about changing “we are on vacation” to “we on vacation”?

Not being a talented singer is a separate issue. He only called him out for not writing his own songs. Actors who don’t write their own screenplays often comment on the parts they play as do singers about the songs they sing. His criticism about him not writing his own songs is simply not that much of a burn.
But did you know what beer they would be drinking? They probably went back and forth on that for weeks. The guy who suggested an Hefeweizen was probably fired on the spot.
