No song for that ... mostly white people ... bashing BLM sells to his target audience. I learned recently he was on stage in Las Vegas during that mass shooting where the guy shot from the hotel window into the crowd ... but it's also worth pointing that no mass shooting violence made his video ... I guess mass shooting are OK in a small town?
I don’t really like country, and songs like this to me are hick seedish, but it’s art, and there is usually a fair amount of license to express yourself in terms of artistic expression. There are probably hundreds, or more rap songs extolling the gangster life, and the violence and sexism that comes with it, and that is mostly viewed as an expression of culture.
Not sure this is quite accurate. There are contractual obligations and such between Aldean and CMT which allow them to air his videos. It's not necessarily a simple matter of "hey we want to play your video, so we're gonna and ain't nothin' you can do about it" or "we were playing your video for a while, but we've decided to not play it ever again." The contract was cancelled, in effect. CMT can't just decide to broadcast his video or not broadcast his video on a whim.
This is not quite accurate. Yes, Aldean was originally from Macon, but he now lives in Nashville. Apparently he moved there this past winter from Centerville, Tennessee, where he had a ranch. Centerville is 31 miles from Columbia. So the choice of that location seems quite reasonable, especially since a lot of other filming of things have taken place there. I don’t like this song and I don’t like the veiled vigilantism. But I have to wonder how many people on Too Hot knew anything about a lynching in Columbia, Tennessee a century ago before they read or heard about the controversy. I sure didn’t. Intended references to some historical event are useless if no one knows about that event. I suspect across the country, the only people who knew about it are those who are into that kind of history.
People came from small towns all across the country (or at least people with small minds came) to take part in Jan. 6. But of course some consider that off topic. In this thread we're talking about mistreating police officers in small towns (we won't stand for it!), whereas in DC "it's gonna be wild."
That makes sense. Thanks for the info. I didn't know the history of the courthouse beforehand, but there's a lot of things people don't know.. until they do. For something to be controversial, I don't think the majority of people have to know the history beforehand. It's perfectly fine, imo, for others to point it out first. For example, some country singer sings about higher education. Them fancy liberals with their fancy educations are ruining our kids Endocrtinating our youth in colleges and it's about time that we did.. Something about it, yeah Do something about it, yeah. And the video was shot here, even though I'd bet most Americans 18 and up could identify where they were at, it would still be highly controversial. (I'm pretty sure it's been moved, but I'm just using it as an example. Also, I'll be signing autographs later. Let me know if you need a writer for your next country hit. )
The people criticizing him are saying he intentionally chose that location to promote lynching. I would say that it’s reasonable to question whether that location is a known symbol for promoting lynching.
Yeah, I'll afford some benefit of the doubt. Learning of his close proximity to the location, it's possible that it wasn't intentional. It's also possible that it was intentional. I don't know.
According to FOX it's a small town location near Nashville. It's been used in numerous videos a Christmas special and a Hanna Montana movie. According to the production company Jason had no input. I read that in a British paper online and I'm not going through the trouble of finding the link again to post. My opinion is Jaden Aldean should be canceled for attempting to rap in a country song.
Oh I doubt it was intentional, it was a perfect storm of ignorance. Vigilante hyping lyrics, throwing in an image of a lynching courthouse and the "bad people" protesting. He probably didn't set out to make a quasi-Klan hype video, but like I said earlier in this thread, its funny how that happens when you embrace reactionary themes with gusto.
Yeah that woke Country Music Television channel needs to stop hating on the group who respresents 99.99999% of the content they air on TV.
If liking Jason Aldean is a requirement for being white, we can end white supremacy for good, because almost no one will want to be white anymore

If it’s anything like how radio singles or MTV videos are/were played when that was a thing - you are only half correct here. They have to have rights to air something (usually this would transfer with the CD radio promo or the Video Promo master). Most of the time these rights to singles would be transferred for free, since the idea of the promotional single was to get the audience to buy an album or CD or just to generally promote them. Other than perhaps some more elaborate “specials” with specifically defined airtimes, there wasn’t likely any special obligation to play a video or radio single.
Must not be. Im white, yet know so little about “modern country” or pop culture (CMT or TikTok or otherwise), I literally have no idea who this guy is and couldn’t identify a single song if I heard it. I think I’ll elect keep it that way. The name does sound familiar to me so I think this guy must have done some MAGA trash stuff in the past.
