First, you appear to be dreaming stuff up. But even if not, folks have every right to "demand" an apology. So what? Doesn't mean they'll get it.

Why not? People have the right to their own personal biases and hypocrisies. It's music listening, not teaching children or some other such important endeavor that impacts other folks. People have a right to interpret songs in their own way, even if wrong.

It's not really about personal preference, people are still free to buy and listen to his music. It's whether a company ... in this case CMT ... can exclude artistic speech that offends their beliefs... Are you doing a 180 on this topic?

I haven't watched the video, I still have a grudge against the killing of country music (George Strait and Alan Jackson sang about it, "Murder on Music Row"). But having read the lyrics, I assume it's rap. I don't see how any melody could be applied to those lyrics (compare Haggard's "Fightin' Side of Me" lyrics in this thread, I remember that song's melody well). Aldean's "song" reads like rap crap. Real country. And if perchance it's not rap, it still reads like crap. And can you believe this? It took four people to write it! LOL.

Nobody's arguing "CAN," that is a complete strawman.

People are arguing whether they SHOULD, an argument you seem to be avoiding because the argument against Aldean in that regard is entirely moronic, and you probably realize that.

I’m sure these fine gentlemen are humming along to Jason Aldean’s new song while tending to their prison duties

Man that's a really dumb song. Here's a much better version of the country vs city dynamic that Nashville is so fond of. This song used to be on the jukebox at the Salty Dog.

I had a good friend in New York City
He never called me by my name, just Hillbilly
My grandpa taught me how to live off the land
And his taught him to be a businessman

He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights
And I'd send him some homemade wine
But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars, my friend lost his life

I'd love to spit some Beech-Nut in that dude's eyes
And shoot him with my old .45
'Cause a country boy can survive
    Country folks can survive

    I probably won't? Good grief.
Aldean's song is being discussed because it's in the national news. Neither I nor the person who started the thread plucked it out of obscurity in order to claim it's the worst song ever. It's a current, national story. One that doesn't change because you think there are worse songs in the world.

But, yes you're right, there's been plenty of disgusting, offensive songs released over the years. Most of which I'm guessing that neither you nor I have ever heard.

Why is it moronic? You are acting like this is the first time an artist has been censored. I can think of like 3 dozen other times music artists have been censored just off the top of my head ... I bet there are 1000s of examples if you search it out ... it didn't really hurt Tom Petty ... or Madonna ... or Elvis ... or the Door ... or Twisted Sister ... or Ozzy ... or Bruce Springsteen ... or Guns and Roses ... or Metalica ... or Ice T ... or Janes Addiction ... etc ... etc ... most of which were censored for even dumber and imaginary reasons that this guy.

This guy is out of his league in the company he keeps and should be honored...

No, but the media did. Funny how that works.

Here's the truth, there are more popular songs than Aldean's right now that purvey a more toxic message than Aldean's and promote violent crime.

Yet, this is the kindle that lights everyone up. It's all just really interesting and convenient. And here you are doing what you always do, digging your head in the sand and pretending like this is all normal, and the media proportionally represents issues.

This video has about 200,000 less views than Aldean's, and was released 3 weeks ago, AND it doesn't have the advantage of having the media attention of Aldean's song which drew people to it out of mere curiosity. This artist has about 1 million more subscribers than Aldean.

CMT pulled the video, not YouTube. Essentially what this thing is about is TV standards not whatever you can find on the internet. Like you cant even use curse words on TV! Its a different standard! Would the video you linked here even get close to airing on TV? Who even airs rap videos now?

That would have been one of the songs I'd never heard. Unfortunately, now it's one of the songs that I listened to for a little while and bailed. I agree, pretty awful stuff that normalizes really ugly behavior.

    Thank you.

Now, I think this sort of music and art should be fair game. It should be given a platform because this is America, but that's the point.

And the media is specifically using Jason Aldean here to score political points, not because they really care about sensitivity in music. So no, Aldean and anybody who appreciates this song shouldn't feel the need to explain themselves to the very hacks that are feigning outrage to enjoy a little power trip.

Even back when MTV did air music videos, it was rap music for white people. At least the stuff in their normal rotation, Hammer rapping a praying a lot, how lame was that ... Vanella Ice, enough said ... Fresh Prince songs about shopping with his mom ... there was basically a category of self deprecating humor songs like "The Humpty Dance", "Wild Thing", "Baby's got Back", Ski Lo, Kris Kros wearing their cloths backwards for some reason ... it's like MTV could tolerate it if they were making fools out of themselves. They weren't playing NWA and Too Live Crew ...
