Not a fan of banning music or any kind of art based on someone’s interpretation of the content. As far as the video, unless this was a deliberate attempt to highlight a lynching location, I don’t see the issue. I’m guessing there’s a lot of public areas in the South where lynchings took place. I’m also guessing your average American has no clue about these events happening there, and would not have made the connection unless someone told them.

Much to do about nothing IMO. And sounds like nobody was paying attention to this song/video until now. Wouldn’t be surprised if this is a deliberate guerrilla marketing attempt.

    Self depreciating humor, irony, cleveriry...

It's intended to be funny, more than actually glorifying the things mentioned.

It's OK to laugh at benign humor.

Humor doesn't always have to be mocking or stinging...

Well, while I'd love to accept the olive branch... I don't think what you said is really fair. Being upset by one thing does not mean that you are going to be upset by another thing. Now... if the Eminem, DMX, or Jay Z songs were talking about the same thing as Aldean and they have no issue with it, that would be hypocritical and I would agree with you.

    Some.
    Some country music.
Like the OP my country taste is mostly the beach stuff like Chesney and Buffett's country stuff, but Tyler Childers, Stapleton, Colter Wall, Sturgill Simpson, Larry Fleet, Ryan Bingham etc. are opening my eyes to the genre that I previously ignored. Sort of an earthy alt country I guess, but miles away from the bro crap you are referring to.

Its big with kids too. All of my daughters college friends are crazy into it all. They dont touch the trailer park bro country crap.

Seems like most of the bro country crap emanates from Georgia.

While I think the intent was fairly innocent, it is funny how easily romanticizing certain things and contrasting it with other things can turn something into a pseudo-KKK hype video. Not really surprising in the age where far-right stuff is essentially mainstream.

Ok, take out any racial or imagined racial angle. Can we shred that agree that beating or killing someone who did something fully legal is not exactly an admirable trait?

    not something to be celebrated?

Yes, the takeaway here is that people feel like spitting at cops and burning the flag is not a critique on anti-American and anarchist sentiment but a critique on mainstream LEFT-WING ideology.

Yeah, that's a sign of the right going too far no doubt. I sincerely hope that the left adopts these things as their identity. See how well it goes for them at the polls.

Yeah. Evil stuff is evil stuff.
Dont scream about one and ignore the other.

If JA had intent, then I say he gets what he gets, and deservedly so....but don't scream about it while listening to chauvinistic garbage.

According to an earlier post Aldean did not select the courthouse for the video, the production company did. Does that change anyone's opinion?

I'm really open about this stuff. I think a lot of the messages in these songs at face-value are evil, but it's just art. It's just words on paper.

The important thing is the values, character, and actions of the person who likes the music, not the message of the lyrics at face value, nor the lyrics at some hidden conspiratorial level. And typically, especially in the 21st century, our standards of what is acceptable in lyrics and in music videos is unbelievably broad. So when people want to narrow it for things like "Baby it's Cold Outside" and "Try that in a Small Town," sorry, but I don't think the outrage is genuine. It's political.

    Probably not, Oklahoma.

That's not how political discourse works in 2023. Either assume that allegation is untrue even in the face of damning evidence or double down even in light of the new information.

How do you feel about RAP music my friend....I have sat at red lights and heard the words coming out of the car radio next to me several times and could have swore I heard the words "Kill Whitey" or the words "Kill a cop". Do you think those words are appropriate?
