I think we definitely need to pick up a quality starter, possible another pitcher and one or two position players to solidify the team for next year.

I heard that he just loves being a gator and wants to go to UF. He was told to look around last year, but instead offered to give up his scholly and said he’d help in any way he could if they let him stay around.

We need more hitters and a starting pitcher.

I'm pretty sure that he is now focusing on entering PT school.

  8. Hope I'm not missing something but I'd be okay with Dale Thomas at the hot corner provided we saw more consistency. Liked that he seemed to the ball on a line when he made contact.

Imo he can be a decent option....but as it stands now he is the only option and Shelton the lone SS option. And neither is really proven defensively to say the least

There must have been some hurt feelings from the Fabian camp as it made too much sense for Derik to stick around.

Probably hard not to when you had a quarter of the plate appearances than you did the previous year. Sometimes he looked completely overmatched at the plate but then he would have an exceptional game or two.

New transfer from Gulf Coast State College. I'm a little worried that we are done with big names the rest of this off season.

That seems to be the case as it stands right now. I mean, they added 2 catchers (which was a position of need) to accompany Luke Heyman & Shelton to take over at SS. But I guess they must be pretty high on the players who've been here (i.e., Thomas, Shelnut, etc) & any of the freshmen who will make it to campus. Still don't have anyone who will fill the void left by Langford in LF. Personally, I hope they at least add/play someone there who's a natural outfielder. Watching Shelnut in the OF this past season was a bit tough to watch at times.

He played 2nd base this past season, but he obviously isn't going to unseat Kurland there. I'm hoping for another position player and a starting pitcher from the portal.

It's Florida baseball, so it's not wrong to assume that things will work out for us, but I don't think anyone should underestimate the extent of the losses we've suffered this offseason. Tearing Langford, Rivera, Waldrep and Sproat off the roster tears a big hole in our overall production. You're talking two 1.000+ OPS bats (one a dynamite defensive shortstop) and two power arm starters, however inconsistent. Replacing all of that is incredibly difficult. You can only ask so much of Caglianone.

Excellent points throughout your post @MadduxFanII. Replacing mainstays in the lineup is always a major challenge.

And your point about Caglianone couldn’t be clearer.

Sometimes the production piece is the easy part to replace. You left off Halter and BT and their leadership roles on the team. I think we have the arms to be a lot more consistent and have overall better stats on the mound. Point well taken on Langford and Rivera. Guys have to step up!
