I don't follow. It seems perfectly logical to join in without caring about the video. I've enjoyed addressing the reactions to the reactions to the video. do you think the video's a big deal? your post - that posting = thinking the vid's a big deal - would suggest you do.

in case there is still confusion. I don't care about the video.

I can't believe it. :D You pulled an Ilhan Omar. "Doing things they don't like" is doing quite a lot of heavy lifting there for you.

You know "some things we don't like" happened on 9/11, 2001.

No, he's critiquing violent riots, some of which happened to be organized by Black Lives Matter.

I'm saying even if you think it's a critique on Black Lives Matter, which you seem to be suggesting, that's not a critique on Black people.

It IS a critique on violent riots. If Black Lives Matter happens to be organizing violent riots, that's on them. Last I checked, a whole lot of the protesters that Summer were White, including BLM protesters.

that's so funny. Isbell said, I don't actually know any Jason Aldean songs, but I guess they are about tractors.

    1. So you believe Aldean is "critiquing" Black Lives Matter protests in his song that threatens violence and is "coincidentally" filmed in front of a courthouse famous for a lynching?
    2. You realize that he also threatens violence against nonviolent protected expression, right? He specifically references stomping on or burning the flag and cussing out cops.

It's clear this conversation is going nowhere fast. You're outraged that CMT doesn't want to associate their brand with lynching. Oh well. Those politically correct corporations just keep screwing over "conservatives."

Sure. Black Lives Matter is not Black people. I remember more White people putting up the Black square on social media to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement than Black people.

You're the one associating violent riots with Black people, not me.

Please. grow up. I shared one song by Eminem where he brutally murders his significant other in song and another song by another "artist" that specifically alludes to raping a woman. Spare me.

No, I'm outraged that cultural fabric of this country has gone to complete shit, and people can fish for reasons to remove from the air a relatively milk toast song while on the other hand displaying lesbian sex acts on live tv at the Grammy's and songs about murder and rape are just considered so normal that nobody cares... unless of course Jason Aldean releases a song (with no sex or cuss words) that is basically the embodiment of "F around and find out." Because that's where we draw the line, any obstacle to the movement is cancel-worthy, regardless of how offensive it actually is.

No doubt. Perhaps why the song and video were made.

No, I'm associating Black Lives Matter with Black people, kind of like how I associate the Civil Rights Movement with Black people, even though white people took part in it too.

Yes, it is just so upsetting that CMT would want no part of a song connected to lynching. How can people be more comfortable with suggestive dancing than lynching homages? Cancel culture has run amok.

    Maybe and maybe not.

Frankly, if it was this easy to get that kind of reaction, and Aldean was trying to prove some point... it worked.

Do you really think sex acts haven’t been simulated on TV before, or are you just mad because it’s “lesbian” in this one instance?

I mean, Elvis could only be shown from the waste up on TV because they thought his hip gyrations were to sexual…. So blame him for starting it all…

Okay. I disagree... and Aldean probably disagrees as well, but I'll humor you for a second.

Is a condemnation of the riots of 2020 a condemnation of the Black Lives Matter movement?

But it's not connected to lynching. That's kind of the whole problem with what you're saying. You're assuming something that is incorrect and expecting everyone else to just agree with you. That's not how this works.

MTV/BET played songs about raping people? Interesting. Care to name one?

    Unbelievable bait.

The point is depictions of sex and violence are completely normal on TV. Yet Aldean essentially singing "F around and find out," that's where we draw the line.

Yeah, I guess CMT draws the line at promoting vigilante violence when they got other songs about pick up trucks and cheatin’ women they could play instead…. Okay… who cares? Wasn’t my idea.

It very clearly is. He just happened to film at a random courthouse in Tennessee that is famous for being the site of a lynching, and he just happened to film his sundown song while doing it. Interesting coincidence, eh?

Again, when somebody is overcharging terms like "did things" and "clearly," they typically don't have a point.

By "did things" you mean "violent riots."

And by "clearly" you mean "I think so, but I can't back it up."

Now, care to answer me whether a critique on the riots is a critique on Black Lives Matter?

There is no dispute he filmed the video for his sundown song at a courthouse famous for a lynching. That necessarily connects it to lynching. Glad we were able to clear that up. Enjoy your night.

In one week we've had the same people defending "Cuties" bash "Sound of Freedom," and the same people supporting evil lyrics alluding to murder, rape, and domestic violence in the name of artistic expression are bashing "Try that in a Small Town."

If you think this is normal, I don't know what to tell you folks.

    No it doesn't.

I see you're not going to answer whether you think that a critique on the riots is a critique on Black Lives Matter. I'm going to guess it's because you know where I'm going with it.

If you think a critique on the riots is a critique on Black Lives Matter, and a critique on Black Lives Matter is a critique on Black people, then that means if you support Black people, you must support the riots of 2020.
