Assuming there is a statute of limitations, that’s water under the bridge and gone… but I agree.

Are you really a lawyer? I'm not. Your arguments however, are very easy to pick apart.

The security clearance of the POTUS lies with the office, not the person. When Biden took the oath of office on Jan 20, 2021, he became POTUS and Trump lost his security clearance. Once this happened, he had zero right to retain docs that could harm US National Security.

He also had no right to retain Presidential docs under the Presidential Records Act. Now yes, leaks happen. And had Trump returned all docs requested, he likely does not get charged with obstruction. Notice, he's not charged at all regarding any doc he did return. But Trump didn't return all the docs. He lied about it, lied to his lawyers about it, ignored subpoenas, and purposely moved boxes to hide them.

Trump's personal knowledge of what's on the docs is irrelevant. He could, I guess, sell info or flap his gums and spill secrets. But doing so and he could be charged with treason. I guess Trump could also be kidnapped and forced to spill secrets. But chances of that happening with a full Secret Service detail are minimal.

Trump's intimate knowledge of the docs don't make them any less dangerous in the wrong hands. There are good reasons why docs get marks like TS/SCI, which is Top Secret, own in Secure Room only. And docs like this should never be kept in country club ballrooms or bathrooms. Especially near a photo copy machine!

But that's what Trump did. And did so purposely. And under the Espionage Act, that's a crime against the state.

oh, I see. I post an article on a recent event with massive national consequences. I give a quick take on how this news, coupled with other events and an opinion on the national temperature. I opine that the Country seems to be getting “pushed” towards civil war….an opinion which is shared by many in the conservative and liberal media. I get attacked (exactly as my op said I would), I defend myself and my opinion, and now you come on, a day late and a dollar short, and try to attack me for defending myself. Did I miss something sunshine? Go back to bed and sleep it off……oh, and try reading more so you can keep up with the informed. Here ya go bro……..

Assume the statute of limitations has expired, but the conduct is identical….should Trump be prosecuted? Assume the alleged wrongful conduct has been committed by the last 7 sitting Presidents…..should Trump be prosecuted? Now, to the point of this thread: if no President has ever been charged under the Act in the History of the United States, and we have had about 10 years of intermittent violence and unprecedented rhetoric in this Country….including an “insurrection “….is it wise to poke the electorate?

I hope you are better with differentiating fact patterns in court than you show here.

You are exhibiting the same kind of logical fallacies Trump does where he tries to keep his arguments at the 30,000 foot level because the facts relevant to his behavior are so damning.

Oh and FYI, we aren't supposed to let criminals off the hook because people who feel like the criminals do will be mad about the conviction. For sociopathic or psychopathic criminals, this is a license to keep committing the crimes.

BS. You attacked anyone who didn't agree with you.

People pointed out that there was no civil war after the first two indictments (very relevant context!) and you didn't like that.

Other people said they support indicting Trump even with a looming threat of civil war because otherwise we'd effectively be giving in to domestic terrorists. You didn't like that.

I'm not sure what you wanted out of this. For everyone to fawn over the brilliant scenario you concocted? To get people to agree that Trump shouldn't be indicted even though we don't know what the charges will be?

your first problem, like the dozen or so before you, is that you think my op was about Trump… just ignoring the very first sentence of my OP. Here’s an assignment for you. Assume for purposes of this assignment only that my OP is not about Trump. Go back and read my OP with the idea that it is not about Trump. Then you can come back and actually have a reasonable discussion about the topic. Trump is a player in the post, but he’s not the topic. Here’s a hint: what’s the title of the post?

Second, show me a post where I attacked someone for not agreeing with me. Instead, you’ll find me responding to the attacks on me in kind. Some of you people are so caught up in “orange man bad” hate, that you’ve lost the complete ability to be civil. This is why I repeatedly point out in this thread that the responses are indicative of why we are so close to the powder keg exploding. But, don’t just rely upon my opinion, how about you read some of the hundred plus articles out there on the same exact subject matter. I posted a link to a dozen or more above.

I think the fact that you began talking about Trump immediately, mentioned him 10 times in your OP and the only link you included was strictly about Trump ... maybe that gave some people the impression that your post had some vague ties to Trump.

Otherwise ... I haven't been online much and apologize for just opening the thread. But apparently 200,000 angry and armed Trump supporters are going to storm coffee shops around the country and start mowing down employees because .... you don't think Trump should have been indicted?

I'm that case, we're not being pushed to a civil war. We're just watching the justice system at work. If we take Trump's name out of it, and it's a nameless President with the exact same fact pattern, I bet there would be 90%+ support across the country to indict President X. If it were Biden in the same circumstance, I'd be in favor of indictment also.

You're really bad at trolling. I hope you don't get batted around in court like you have been here.

Your time would be better spent learning Pickleball then looking like a fool here.

I noticed that you glossed over that my “talking about Trump immediately” mentions him in the context of this post isn’t really about Trump (“before you start bashing Trump..”). I also noticed you glossed over the title of this thread, which is about the potential of Civil War. Finally, I don’t see anywhere in your analysis above of the 50 other posts on this particular thread from me in which I continuously say, this post is not about Trump. I get it. Reading is hard when you can’t get by your triggering word. Orange man bad!!

And your comment about 200,000 angry and armed Trump supporters attacking Starbucks is rather juvenile. In fact, I don’t think I ever suggested that any Trump supporter would attack anyone. What I actually said is I foresee you’re two hostile extreme groups together on the same block, some of them are going to be armed, and once the first shot is fired, regardless, of which side, a lot more shots are gonna be fired. Boom! One shot leads to two shots. Two shots lead to 4 shots……. Anarchy….. Civil War. But that’s OK, because we have some soldiers on here, who took an oath to protect the country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. But which side is the enemy? Hmmmmmmmm. What could possibly go wrong here?

but I expect very little from you and your two dozen or so closed minded minions who all espouse the same BS. Orange man bad. Orange man bad. If this post doesn’t prove anything to those of us who aren’t afraid to engage in civil dialogue, it demonstrates that the premise behind this post, which is violence is going to come from the intolerance of the extremes, is absolutely spot on. If the only thing you get from my post is that I’m trying to defend Trump, which I never tried to do, it makes it impossible for you and I to talk about anything related to politics or social issues. If we, as a group of Gator alumni, can’t at least agree that we should take all reasonable steps to avoid violence and a potential Civil War, then there’s not much more to discuss in this type of forum. Somethings should just be truisms, and this is one of them. Chow.

    From one of links above:

He and his colleagues surveyed more than 8600 adults in English and Spanish about their views on democracy in the United States, racial attitudes in U.S. society, and their own attitudes toward political violence. The respondents were part of the Ipsos KnowledgePanel—an online research panel that has been used widely, including by Wintemute for research on violence and firearm ownership. The team then applied statistical methods to extrapolate the survey results to the entire country.

Although almost all respondents thought it’s important for the United States to remain a democracy, about 40% said having a strong leader is more important. Half expect a civil war in the United States in the next few years. (The survey didn’t specify when.) “The fact that basically half the country is expecting a civil war is just chilling,” Wintemute says. And many expect to take part. If found in a situation where they think violence is justified to advance an important political objective, about one in five respondents thinks they will likely be armed with a gun. About 7% of participants—which would correspond to about 18 million U.S. adults—said they would be willing to kill a person in such a situation.

Kleinfeld says the study’s findings are compelling because of the large number of participants and because it asked about specific scenarios in which participants think violence is justified—such as for self-defense or to stop people with different political beliefs from voting. The sample does slightly overrepresent older people, who are not known to commit much violence worldwide, she says. “So the fact that you’re [still] getting these high numbers … is really quite concerning.” (Emphasis added)

    ***

To summarize the majority of responses here:

Nothing to see here folks. Orange man bad. 18 million adults admitting they are willing to murder others over politics. No big deal. Trump is bad. Posting about civil war is really posting about saving Trump. Orange man bad. Did I miss anything fellas? LOL! F’ing Sheep!
