Robert Duvall lives there. I was told you could go to a little diner there and run into him. So I did. Alas, no RD. But the server told me it was true.

Anyhoo, Fauquier is crazy conservative for NOVA. About a 65/35 split typically. The school I was at was an 80/20 split in the 2020 POTUS election.

Conservative “Christian” Jan 6 protestors throw dead rat on restaurant owned by gay couple and then claim they are victims of intolerance. Sigh. Were they born victims or is it a choice?

While I doubt the gay couple is blameless (people rarely are in these sorts of feuds), I still feel for them. Ridiculous that couple moves in next door to a restaurant and then constantly complains about the reality of living next door to a restaurant. The entitlement is disgusting.

I'm sure they're not completely blameless, but they had seemed to thrive in the town just fine before their new neighbors moved in, which suggests to me that they were not innately damaging to the social fabric

I read a comment on reddit from someone that lives in the city. Take it for what it's worth. Apprently the couple that moved in have been shunned by the already established wealthy Republicans in the city. The wife got denied from the local garden club. Etc. They are "new money" conservatives and the old money didn't welcome them. So now they're lashing out as the modern GOP victim hood dictates.

And they're probably going to suffer some social opprobrium as a result of driving the restauranteurs to retire. Which they will then characterize as unfair cancel culture

I suppose it could have happened. But the list of hate hoaxes now competing with the O.E.D. for thickness.

I don't think so. The article said their son's name is Regan. He apparently was running for local office.
The whole "new money" distinction does sometimes matter, but part of me wonders if their problems are due to their entitlement more than anything. Basically, if they acted like the same entitled assholes they were with their neighbors, I'm not surprised the "old money" folks wanted nothing to do with them.

Anyways, hard to tell with these sorts of feuds who is truly at fault, as I am sure my political priors make me biased towards the people who think like me, but it's just sad they couldn't find a way to work this out.

And FWIW, I have some conservative neighbors, and they are good people. Haven't had an issue with any of them. Some have gone out of their way to be kind and neighborly. So I don't want my comments about this couple to be seen as a broader criticism of Republicans. These people just seem obnoxious.

My parents actually have an obnoxious neighbor that acts like this couple. It's a older wealthy white woman who is always in their business and actually demanded my parents have a tree cut down or trimmed because it was "blocking her view." (In addition to a number of other obnoxious complaints over trivial things.)

His name is Arthur "Regan" Washer :) In most places he is only listed as Regan, but that isn't his legal name.

I also wouldn't use my legal first name if it tied me to past misdeeds.

Arthur “Regan” Washer is one of two Republicans vying for the GOP nomination in the Marshall District.

In that case, it might be him. Because I think he's 31. And that happened 10 years ago when "Arthur Washer" was 21.

We had a lady neighbor who tried to tell us how to trim our trees and plants, and when to do it. We had a driveway poured to accommodate our boat. She came over and told the cement guy he had to stop because she had a headache and was trying to take a nap. It happened whole the cement truck was there pouring cement. We found out later that day when our contractor mentioned it. Not long afterwards a city official stops by and asks if they can cut down an invasive tree in our yard. It was called a Chinese Tallow. We lived close to hogtown creek. They said the berries drop off and get washed into the creek. Of course we let them cut it down. The next day our neighbor comes over, knocks on our door, and starts chewing my wife out about letting them cut it down. My wife finally gets tired of her and tells her to go home and mind her own f-n business. The lady stands there stunned and then says,,, “Well, this conversation went well” throws her head up into the air and goes home never to be heard from again.

The right-winger neighbors sound like a couple of psychos though. The video evidence of the guy tossing a dead rat onto the restaurant property and then taking pictures of it there destroys any credibility they would otherwise have.

Yeah. They claim is that the rat was returned fire from the diner doing it first, which may be the case... but even so the whole turning the other cheek seems lost on these two.
