Somebody needs to check on Kid Rock - meltdown re: trans influencer

Modelo taking over as number one was inevitable. Bud Light dropping to second in the US is barely a blip on AB/InBev's bottom line given how much they dominate in international markets.

 

I would also add that the decline of Bud Light is the continuation of a trend that began over a decade ago although the Instagram post with Dylan Mulvaney that triggered the snowflakes exacerbated the trend.

 

Agreed. If you’re gonna drink lite piss beer (admittedly great for a hot day), Modelo is the way to go.

 

I will say the New England hazy IPA craze is completely out of control but at the very least it’s happening to a type of beer that is more or less tasty. This craze makes sense.

 

I've seen hazy IPA, but am not much of a beer drinker. I had a hemp ale one time and really liked it. What is a hazy IPA?

Hazy IPAs, as the name implies, are cloudier than a normal IPA. This is from brewing with more oats or wheat. Hops are added later in the brewing cycle to make it more aromatic and less bitter. Resulting in a softer mouthfeel and more of a back end lighter hop taste.

Personally I love them but also think there are wayyyyy too many subpar ones on the market.

Anchor Brewing, a beloved San Francisco company that is considered the oldest craft brewery in the United States, announced on Wednesday that it would close after 127 years of business.

The decision came as a result of declining sales and the economic pressures — including from the pandemic and inflation — that have affected many businesses in the brewing industry, the company said. Before the announcement, Anchor had ceased production of its popular Christmas Ale and stopped the national distribution of its beers.



Bart Watson, chief economist at the Brewers Association, a trade group of American breweries, said in a statement Wednesday that Anchor’s contribution to U.S. beer history “cannot be overstated.” He added that the craft brewing market had grown “radically” in recent decades, increasing competition even for strong brands.

“Anchor’s announcement partially reflects this new maturing era for craft, and should be taken in the context of the large and competitive market that Anchor helped create,” Watson said.

What a shame. Anchor was the first craft brew I ever tasted.

 

I had moved off IPAs for awhile there because it was Hop-mania with them. Everyone was trying to be the most hoppiest/bitter beer out there.

The hazies have brought me back as they are less bitter and more citrusy.

But more times then not, I'll get a Porter if the have one.

 

This was their (and a lot of other breweries) biggest problem. The craft beer boom is over. There are a select few craft breweries that have the cache to distribute nationwide. Stone, Sierra Nevada, Cigar City, Sam Adams, Lagunitas, etc. And all those breweries, except Sam Adams, have one thing in common. IPAs. When the craft beer boom was really in its infancy it was a race to distribution. Now the pendulum has swung back and its all about hyper local neighborhood breweries. Drink Local, Drink Fresh.

 

Yeah totally true on the distribution. All the best beers these days are only available locally.

 

I was talking with a prosecutor in court today who had taken his family to this most recent CWS in Omaha. On the first day he went to a liquor store to stock up for the week. He was unaware of the controversy and put a case of Bud Light in his cart along with his other selections. As he was getting ready to leave two Bud Light reps thanked him for his support and purchased a second case for him. He obviously researched it after he got back to his hotel and was stunned to see the uproar over an isolated incident.
