Anticipation for this movie has really penetrated the national consciousness. WaPo is offering a special newsletter

Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie premieres in just a few days, and The Washington Post is here to help you make sense of this gorgeous, plastic moment with a new pop-up newsletter, Unboxed.

Starting July 16, culture writer Allie Jones will explain the sea of pink we’re swimming in, making sure you’re up to date on the latest news and memes, and answering important questions, such as why the film’s merch is inescapable and who was brave enough to take in “Barbenheimer.”

(And don’t worry; we won’t flood your inbox. You’ll get only a handful of emails between July 16 and 24.)

    Hi, Barbie!

Barbie pWYA4Jvdw.jpeg REal 9 dash-pjlq.jpg This is bizarre. Vox writes an article just assuming that is a deliberate 9 Dash Line. Compare for yourselves and note that there are also random dashes around Greenland. I just don't see it

The only movie I ever rated worse than Waterworld in person was Seven Years in Tibet.

    Charlotte
They made 3 Austin Powers movies so it’s no worse than 4th worst movie.

I just cannot deal mentally any longer that this mindset is so prominent in our country. They are just so stupid and evil

It’s deliberate distraction. The GOP has given up on being a real party. They can’t engage in any kind of real discussion. This is all they have left.

While I certainly ca'nt and wont argue with this, I think the lefts propensity to die on every weird identity hill has created a defensive backlash (however overreactive it may be.)

The wedge driving from the politicians and talking heads is very much out of touch with the mainstream.

Waterworld has 4.7 stars on Amazon user reviews so not really that much hate. There was definitely a lot of hate when it first came out because it was an expensive bomb. I think when people actually watched it on cable or streaming services they realized it wasn’t that bad.

As for Barbie, there was no chance that I was going to watch it regardless of politics. Not sure how much it will impact actual Barbie fans.

I thought 7 years in Tibet was good-- vaguely, upon recollection (though I don't remember anything about it).

Not defending the GOP. I left it for the reasons you mention.

But yes. In my state forcing stupid social issues like men in womens locker showers was THE topic of the 2016 election. It literally cost a good governor his office.

The left intentionally misrepresented it as a "bathroom" bill. (It was not) and won the election by painting those who opposed the real point as hateful. In the process lazy corporations that did not do their homework (NCAA tourny, NBA all star game etc) pulled events from the state. This made people pretty darn defensive.

The left literally died on the hill of anatomical males in female showers, while falsely painting it as just a bathroom issue.(The bathroom issue was already resolved previously.)

I am not saying that overreaction is justified. I am just saying it happens.

Both extremes live and die on drama and it's those noisy minority opinions that drive the political discourse in America rn.

We just like the ones that we agree with and think they are not extremes and that only the other side is doing it.

    We get pretty politically snowblind.

    1. I am not speaking of the whole country. The whole NC governors race 100% pivoted on that issue regardless of which side you chose. (@citygator, my liberal NC brother can probably verify.)

    2. I never assigned any opinion to "the whole" of the left. In fact I clearly stated the extremes are not representative of the mainstream, verbatim.

    3. The NCAA did no homework and did act 8n haste. They themselves categorized it as a "bathroom" issue. It was not.

    4. Trumps loss in support in NC is because this is a moderate state and his lunacy is only applauded by those of a certain mindset. Many (like me) changed our opinion of Trump after watching him make a mockery of the office. He lost my vote 8n 2020 and it had nothing to do with trans issues lol.
