Yes. Trophy Case. What exactly are his accomplishments as a QB for the Gators..None. I stick to my opinion, that future recruits arent coming here because of him unless they hope to recreate the minimum effort he put in. Cheers!

It's an unsubstantiated claim to say he put in minimum effort. If he becomes a big star in the NFL, kids will look up to him and want to follow in his footsteps.

That "Trophy Case" has been empty for a quite some time now, long before AR ever played a down at UF.

AND during AR's time...didnt really leave a mark. Also, CDM did most recently take the the team to the SECCG wouldnt say the trophy case is empty as the HBC always viewed winning the SECE as a major accomplishment! Cheers!

We watched the same games right ? I'll stick to my opinion until actual facts are presented.

There is a long list of UF QBs in recent history (2010 - present) who did nothing to add to your beloved “trophy case.” I don’t see what the fascination is with only honing in on AR is, but hey do what you must.

NFL scouts and UF coaches watched those games too, and none of them came away with the “lack of effort” thing. I guess that’s why they’re the experts and you’re just a fan.

The one thing that bothered me was during one press conference AR said something like you win some you lose some. I don’t think losing gutted him like some of our former greats.

We will never know if AR was injured or was distracted with the NFL or maybe he just lacked experience.

Appreciate the effort he did give but now it’s next man up. Hopefully the defense takes a leap forward and we have a qb that can make some of the short throws .

Hope he does well in the NFL because that’s always good for the Gators image.

Experts? Nah, they blow it all the time just as much as we couch jockeys. There are some that are elite evaluators but there are more that continually fail draft after draft.

Because he is supremely physically gifted and our highest drafted qb ever. All we got is what could have been. He isn’t that guy yet but he has the potential to be a hof qb. I hope he wins ten super bowls but we never got to see that potential unfold. It’s a bummer for us gator fans but it is what it is. We didn’t get what we got from other qbs. We got one year of him trying to develop and he’s such a freak, the nfl took him fourth as a raw talent. I’m ecstatic for him but we gators just didn’t get to enjoy what could have been.

The point is no team is drafting a player who allegedly doesn’t give his full effort in the first round. That’s a major red flag that causes players to slip down multiple rounds or even not get drafted. Interesting how NFL scouts who meticulously pored over every single snap and examined the body language of every second of ARs career, UF coaches and UF players who saw him every day in practice never saw this alleged behavior, but somehow a contingent of fans did.

They took JaMarcus Russell? The NFL is full of dumbasses and some geniuses. Jerry Jones cannot get out of his own way. That guy is an idiot, but he’s rich.

Jamarcus Russell got fat and lazy after he got drafted and secured millions, I don’t recall there being any questions about his effort before he got drafted.

I don’t know him personally obviously but if you do your research you know what type of people you are dealing with. Sometimes you just have to say to yourself I should have seen that coming. Some people get ran over by the train over and over and over and never see that son of a bitch. There are entire organizations in the NFL that do nothing but make mistakes all day every day and that is why they suck for 20 years.

Next to talent, effort and character are the main attributes teams closely inspect and look at. As a matter of fact, a lot of teams will pick a player who may not be as talented but has lights out effort over a talented but lazy player. Teams have learned from guys like Jamarcus Russell, which was 15 years ago. No chance a team now in 2023 would take a player in the first round to invest millions into (especially at QB) if they had questions about their effort.

I hear you and agree with what you observed on the defensive recruiting trail, but the defensive line (and the entire defense) began to fail NOT because of talent so much as the WRONG defensive schemes and sets. One or two great players in the WEAK (Grantham's 3-4 base defense) defective scheme cannot change the outcome of playing with one hand tied behind our backs. Fortunately there is hope...

Our new DC Austin Armstrong addressed what he and the world saw happen to our once greatly feared defense and he has listed the fix in pressers... One big more is the ditch the 3-4 based defensive scheme... thank GOD someone finally hear what I was screaming about since Mullen brought Grantham with him to Gainesville. AA said he's going to bring an attack style defense. That means a coordinated front-end and back-end attacking defense. They both must work together in order to get the desired outcome from it.

AA is going to a 4 base defensive scheme and 5 front lineman sets on passing downs. You see there two ways to look at passing defense, ones that work, and the others that fail.... miserably. Grantham was stuck on the failure scheme. The bend-over-and-break defense that lines up our DBs 10 yards from the receivers in 3rd or 4th and less than 10, coupled with that 3 man prevent type defensive front that will insure NO pressure will be put on the opposing QBs. That is the passive "born to fail" defensive scheme on pass plays that give the opposing QB all day long to pass the ball.

The more aggressive scheme will have AA's 5 man front put relentless pressure on the opposing QBs with the back end playing Man-Press... we stumbled on the that style one time, that I can remember, in the 3rd quarter of the UGA game. That was "coincidentally" when our defense FORCED 3 TURNOVERS against UGA. And we could not keep that scheme going because it takes several far more quality depth to play that all game long. Last year Toney did NOT have the depth on the defense to run that scheme all game long. Then he bailed-out on us before he even got the chance to fix the personnel and scheme. That is something that both Austin Armstrong and coach Napier have been busy addressing all of season. This is the reason why we're getting loaded up with talented DBs.

I have full confidence that AA is the right man for the job, just by listening to him describe what he's planning for our defense. I just hope we will have enough depth to run that aggressive style of defense.

In the end the 3-4 base defense is a more passive defense and the 4-3 base is made to be a a more aggressive style defense. Now I will NOT go into details about the hybrid schemes from these base set pieces because that's one aspect that AA has not completely divulged. There are limitless schemes that he can run from that base scheme and too many to count set pieces and ways to line-up for me to get fully into it. You will just have to trust AA, as I already do...
