espn might have more total available networks/channels to air games but…outside of abc, espn and all its channels are cable stations and available in much fewer households than cbs, nbc, and fox.

Espn has hemorrhaged subscribers for years now (as many cable stations have but espn costs the most of all cable stations and has seen the largest decline). because of a loss of available viewers, advertising on network tv is more valuable and probably allowed those networks to pay more for Big Ten since their ad revenue will be higher than espn.

 

I just figure the newest deal is always for more money, kind of like NFL qbs. Mahommes is the largest deal in history, until Burrow comes up. Then Herbert then Lawrence and so on, then the narrative shifts to mahommes being underpaid.

I like espn's app and streaming ability 10x better than anyone else's. So I don't really see the issue with it.

True, but I guess I’m just thinking of being able to turn on the tv and watch the game you want. If the sec is on abcspn, then I can find about 6 channels on my tv ready to broadcast sports. If you are relying on nbc/fox/cbs, how many of those are going to break regular schedule to show an out of market or down the board conference game. There can only be one Michigan game and one osu game, and they’d probably play at different times. I don’t think my Orlando market nbc channel would break from golf or murder she wrote reruns to show Purdue vs northern Iowa.
I’m kind of riffing here, but I think the abc/ESPN universe is better suited to handle the entire conference at once than the other major networks.

 

Is that not the case kind of across the board? I can’t think of a single team I even remotely enjoy listening to, outside of our homers.

 

When you’re out and about, it’s sure nice to be able to just log into the espn app on my phone or tablet and know whatever game I wanted to watch will be there, because that’s where all of our games are. Aside from one or two non football away games.

 

The CBS coverage of our games was always top notch. They were just cheapskates. NBC, FOX looks okay too. ESPN likes to do far to many self promotionals (upcoming events, and other games progress stuff) during their broadcasts for me. It's almost like they want to be a NEWS channel and a sports channel all in one... and that is a bad mix, IMHO. Makes them bad at both...

 

The cbs games were traditionally some of the longest games that aired because of all the extra commercials. I remember hating to be in the stadium during a cbs game. I do think espn has caught up to them in that respect though.

If you’re talking about showing clips from other games and stuff during your games, I can see how that could be annoying to some. They own a lot more content though so it kind of makes sense they’d offer more during their broadcasts. As long as they don’t leave my live games to do that crap and keep what I want to watch on screen, it doesn’t really bother me though. My tv is big enough that they can do something off topic on one side. I’m usually not really listening to whatever they’re talking about anyway.

It's annoying when you want to watch a game on one of the ESPN channels and the current game runs long. You have to find the game on a different channel then you have to switch back when the other game is over.

 

Happens all the time too

 

I just start em on the app when the game before ours runs over. Then I don’t have to move.
