I also love movies where the bad guys win. It's why Empire Strikes Back is so good

I was pointing out the QAnon connection because it is relevant to the conversation in this thread. This movie is being hyped by QAnon and MAGA types. Why is that? As for Tom Cruise, I have not seen one of his movies in years because I generally don't care for big dumb action flicks.

There's no way this is better than Taken, which is not a particularly good movie, but at least entertaining

Guy claims to have a particular set of skills, which evidently don’t prevent his family from being kidnapped every movie.

Eh I like my analogy better;)

Anyway we’ve already seen the conservative posters on here have a conniption when it comes to crying about entertainment when they feel it doesn’t align with their political ideologies. Does “I’m not watching the woke NFL or NBA anymore” ring a bell?

Well the DeSantis campaign disaster is playing out like a movie where the evil villain gets his comeuppance. So that's some real life satisfaction that is more enjoyable to watch than any movie.

Jim Caviezel played a role where he claimed to be the son of God, which evidently didn’t prevent him from being beaten to death. Things happen.

Come on man, that's a bit of a reach.

Republicans are called snowflakes (not saying by you) for refusing to see a movie with left-wing partisan messaging that comes off as preachy in the trailer.

This guy talks about the Biden Administration in an interview about the movie, and that's supposed to be a reasonable cause not to watch it?

I'm pretty sure the writers of Stranger Things have some anti-Evangelical biases and that played a role in their inspiration for the story, but many conservatives still like the story because it's a fun story, with values and characters people can relate to on a basic human level.

George Lucas said that the heroes of Star Wars were modeled after the Vietcong and resistors of colonialism. It's sort this line between the "Evil Empire" in Star Wars and the US and the British Empire.

The best art and media in entertainment is the sort where the writers may have their own inspirations and interpretations for the story, which may or may not be religious or political, but explore themes and issues that people can relate to on a basic human level, and drawing those emotions is the focus of the story. I would argue this is one of those stories, and I would say Star Wars is one of those stories as well, at least until the real Evil Empire also known as Disney bought the IP. :D

With just a couple of tweaks this would be a lib’s dream movie …

Midway through: co-actor asks Caviezel character, “Do you believe in God, really ?” After uncomfortable pause *with fifty mile stare* Caviezel character replies, “No. Umm, I don’t know.”

Thrilling climax: Caviezel character and crew swoop in to save a gaggle of gender dysphoric teens from the clutches of a fundamentalist group trying to prevent the kids from getting top and/or bottom surgery.
