Public accommodations laws don't include prostitution. And I doubt anybody is pushing for them to do so. I agree that prostitution should be legalized.

No, the plaintiff was the web designer's company. The request wasn't a major part of the case, and the question of standing didn't turn on it. It makes her lawyers look bad, but beyond that, it doesn't matter much. (Of course, her lawyers are the hate group ADF, so it's not like them looking bad is anything new.)

My bad, you're obviously correct although the person named by the web designer in her lawsuit for allegedly invoking the state law used his name without his consent and it's especially obvious considering that he is a straight married man who never requested her services.

This plaintiff clearly didn't have clean hands. She lied in an affidavit and two other documents she filed mentioned receiving the request from "Stewart." Her pleadings even listed Stewart's contact info. She should be prosecuted for perjury and be held in contempt. The local Bar association needs to take a look at this to see what her attorney's knew when they filed these false documents.

Leah Litman of Strict Scrutiny just had a funny for legal types and White Lotus fans. She said this case established the doctrine of "Jennifer Coolidge standing", as in

"Freedom" does not encompass forcing others to say what you want them to say.

I can imagine the uproar if Ms. Lorie Smith was a Muslim woman and she was refusing service to Baptist couples.

The leftist war on religion is after Muslims too. Democrats have just typically done a masterful job at building minority coalitions by painting this picture of an oppressor class and alleging that Republicans are out to both get minorities and to protect that oppressor class.

When it comes freedom of religion and non-progressive values, Christians and Muslims have a lot of similarities. They have a lot of differences too, but politics has become a game of building coalitions based on what you have in common and making it absolutely impossible to vote for the other side. Republicans have an avenue to make gains there with Muslims. Will they successfully capitalize? Probably not. Democrats do a much better job of controlling the narrative for people who aren't already Republicans.

I think many Christians are fine with that trade given that only about 1% of Americans identify as Muslim while about two thirds identify as Christian. Easy to be cavalier about discrimination when you're in the majority. Their bigger concern now IMO is the growing number of "nones" who aren't religiously affiliated.

That would not stop the right wing media, Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene from going absolutely ballistic.

The Democrats didn't win over Muslims by painting a picture of "an oppressor class." Muslims joined with the Democratic Party because Republicans were hateful as hell towards them, particularly in the decade after 9/11. But even now, there's a lot of bigotry from the right towards Muslims. Liberals/Democrats aren't perfect either, but they are less bad.

Nothing like telling me I'm wrong about Democrats painting a picture of Republicans protecting this oppressor class, like painting Republicans as this oppressive class. :D

If "oppressive class" means bigoted towards certain groups, yeah, you win. That's indeed the modern Republican Party.
