Republican FBI director who was appointed by a Republican (Trump) spent all day in front of a group of Qanon clowns calling themselves republicans and some democrats to answer questions about the FBI's integrity. I think Wray came off as a professional straight forward public servant. The republicans came off as entirely nuts. Democrats rightly called out the show as a campaign stop and not a real hearing. Some lowlights and highlights: 5:00 Jordan's nut opening - everyone is out to get Republicans 11:30 Nadler opening - this is not grounded in making the FBI better but simply performance art 23:20 Wray's pretty understated opening 31:30 Mr Johnson (Pub-LA) no one trusts FBI, its the in-justice dept. Dude says Wray is responsible that no one trusts the FBI and cites a poll - (wonder if he knows congress approval is worse?), But point number 1 (35:00): HUNTER HUNTER HUNTER 37:00 Nadler: Trump sucks 41:00 Kentucky Republican idiot suggesting DNC pipe bomb conspiracy bullshit. TOTAL crazy shit. Then suggested the FBI is targeting gun owner bank accounts or some shit. unbelievable. 49:30 CA Dem asks if there was probably cause to search Trump's palce. Wray says yes. Are you spying on US location data of americans with advertistisng? I'll get back to you. 53:30 Matt Gaetz notes last comment. Then asks about HUNTER HUNTER HUNTER. Then simply just insults Wray like a message board poster. 1:02:00 Memphis Dem question: Were you involved in Jan 6? Was Ray Eps really a secret plant? Wray says thats crazy shit. Dem says I agree. 1:05:00 Republican hack... you had all kinds of plants there!! Suggest FBI is censoring the Internet. Some kind of Ukranian conspiracy question. ...4 more hours of the same stuff. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2023/07/12/fbi-wray-criticism-trump-hunter/ FBI Director Christopher A. Wray testified before Congress for hours Wednesday, defending his record and that of his agents as Republicans attacked what they called politically motivated investigations and threatened to take away some of the bureau’s budget or surveillance authority. Speaking to the House Judiciary Committee, Wray sounded exasperated at times with both the criticisms and the premise behind them — that as a Republican appointed by President Donald Trump, he was nevertheless out to get Republicans. “The idea that I’m biased against conservatives seems somewhat insane to me, given my own personal background,” Wray said. The hearing was Wray’s first congressional testimony since Trump was indicted last month on 37 charges of mishandling national security documents and obstructing government efforts to recover them. Trump has pleaded not guilty.
Holy crap. A partisan taking a partisan position on a partisan congress questioning a partisan official. My head is spinning…
I’m more concerned about the Creepy Personal Snoop Machine. On the other hand, that’s basically what the FBI was founded to do.
A hyperpartisen Democrat thinks the Democrats did a better job? You know what's equally surprising? Where I live the sun is going to set in about 1/2 an hour.
Did you watch it? I actually did so that I could make up my own mind. What was your level of investment to determine my take was inaccurate? Seems like only one of us took an uninformed position.
I'll just paraphrase from the Orlando cop shooting the unarmed man thread, and say something like ... The Conservatives support for criminals and the constant excuse making from them is sickening ... It's clear that conservatives want to pamper criminals and side with them every time ... they must all be criminals themselves to show this kind of hate for law enforcement and support for their fellow gang members.
Ultimately these types of proceedings are pointless, when you really ponder what they are. They are a form of political theater, and the actors each are trying to get a snippet that gets circulated on social media or other media among their particular constituents. What happens before or after, or in response to their performance is totally irrelevant to them.
America today is like watching the weirdest, most implausible movie you can think of. Like imagine a movie starring Jim Jordan and Marjorie Taylor Greene as themselves. With Donald Trump as God and with his motley band of apostles such as the Pillow Guy, Teri Lake, and Rudy Giuliani (running hair dye and all). No one could make it up, so there would be no script, all the cast would have to do, as the Beatles song says, is act naturally. A good title would be "My Country, This Is Thee?"
They provide sound bites for those who live in a reality where Republicans appointed to DOJ positions weaponize against Republicans.
Did you watch the hearing, and are you defending the conduct of some of those clowns based upon that? Or are you just knee-jerking?
This congressional hearing parallels what we see on this forum. The politicians spout conspiracy theories and nonsense with no regard for the truth or accountability. How many times has the our Quidiot posters brought some of these theories only to get immediately shot down with actual facts based in reality? They never take it down, admit it's wrong nor apologize. These people are broken and a danger to our society.
I would argue the 9/11 investigation was entirely different, and was professionally and solemnly conducted. The Dems have their extremists, but they weren't on that Commission. What was on display yesterday by a few of the GOP extremists was disgusting - and, frankly, embarrassing.
why would anyone waste their time watching that? I get better satisfaction (and more useable info) watching the grass grow. I’ve seen the highlights though. My original post stands: this board is comprised of partisans, present company included. I am just a master of the obvious when I point it out. It was definitely a clown show, the only difference being …..who was the clown(s).
I agree about partisanship in the sense of asserting a reasonable point of view. Opposing reasonable points of view are essential for a healthy democracy. Hinting that the 9/11 investigation was a clown show, and that the conduct of a handful of GOP members on yesterday's panel was acceptable is not reasonable and bespeaks hyperpartisanship. As for why one watches such things, I can only say to become educated so as to avoid hyperpartisanship.
