I've always thought that if anything were to actually tear this country apart, it would be religion. I mean, if you truly believe that God wants you to not only live a particular way but to insist that laws and society at large follow those same rules ...

What the hell ? We don’t even have a Christian Day, let alone a Christian Month.

It used to be Baby Jesus Day. For back when people believed in Jesus.

Bingo! And believers can see the movement of God in their lives. Feel his effect in the healing of a broken life, hear the still small voice of His movement as we go through our day.

A deaf and/or blind person may never encounter much of the effects of wind. Wind is still there. A person shut in a nursing home may never feel or see the wind, but wind is still there.

Wind is generally only noticed or felt by those with the willingness to go outside and explore it.

This. It's what happens on the fringe of both sides. Its "imposing" on the first Tuesday in Novemeber.... if I disagree with it.

Its what happens when people go after a group in such a way.
Read some of the posts here aimed at religious folk. Now imagine if those posts were aimed at gays or minorities.

Yet we Christians are the ones filled with "hate". The irony is downright insane.

Good point! It is said that if you REALLY want to find out who has the authority over you, find out who you’re not allowed to speak ill of.

Secular school kids more than 100 times more likely to be teachered than preachered. This per CBS News.

Takeaway, if preservation of the species is the highest aim, better to send your offspring to religious school.

So when I was a child I had an imaginary friend. We built forts together. He would ride on the back of my trike and he would tell me funny jokes. So something like that?

Did your imaginary friend tell you to wander in the wilderness for forty years until your generation died off ?

    It’s also theologically off.

Then the LORD said: Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD;* the LORD will pass by. There was a strong and violent wind rending the mountains and crushing rocks before the LORD—but the LORD was not in the wind; after the wind, an earthquake—but the LORDwas not in the earthquake;*

When he heard this, Elijah hid his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. A voice said to him, Why are you here, Elijah?

There may well be atheists in foxholes. But there are no atheists outside of echo chambers …
