I was listening to a podcast today that said the US has the lowest inflation of any of the G7 nations. At least we're doing something right.
Correct. They said the only thing the US economy is struggling with is real wage growth. Which isn't surprising. The growing wealth gap is our biggest issue as a nation, imo.
Agree 100%. I thought the dislocation from Covid might finally break the wag stickiness and shame excess CEO compensation. Nope. Boy was I naive
I'm a strong believer that the growing wealth gap is what manifests itself in a lot of the crazy political climate we are seeing today.

As someone who works for Publix and has for over 16 years, there have been a lot of good changes since Todd Jones took over as well. I work for their corporate office and am more than satisfied with my position, having been promoted multiple times within the last few years. One big change they’ve made, for the better, is paid parental leave for parents, and both men and women are eligible to use it. You won’t find a lot of companies who offer that at all, much less allow for the father to take time off. Employees are also rewarded fairly regularly with $100 gift cards, get perks through various means such as the Publix app they can redeem at stores for free stuff, and they’ve also kept up with inflation by increasing pay caps and raises for their employees.
Which nothing will be done about anytime soon, because all the inflation hawks think higher wages will reheat inflation
i actually agree with you and Minneapolis is fairly nice ( in summer). The crux of my point is the cities are not comparable in numbers of people moving to them, and demand is the biggest driver in the increase in price. Just seems a bit selective to compare in terms of ‘inflation’.
Yes, there have been positives and the parental leave for mothers and fathers is a great change that all companies should adopt. I was reading about that. I think most of the negatives have been at the store level and have really stretched the employees and managers thin. Managers are now made to be on the floor helping way more than they've had to. It was explained to me as they've been turned into overpaid stocking clerks. That's where the complaints come from it seems. There are a good amount of openings to move up at the stores, but that isn't always a positive. He's talked about the increase in people stepping down after having been promoted. He's a positive person and is passionate about Publix, but he's seen the definite changes in how the stores are run. He knows he is an owner of the place (and a manager himself) and wants the best for the everyone at the stores. Without them, there is no corporate offices. They are on the "front lines" making things happen for the customers and company.
I see their delivery trucks all over. Rather surprised at how many. I’m a hands on person. I go to the store with a list and also look for bogos while there. My wife and I cook a lot. ( fwiw, I cooked for 14 firefighters when I was at the main firehouse in downtown Tampa) My wife and I don’t eat out much. I’d rather cook my own food, seasoned to our taste, while sipping a good wine and listening to music we like, without having to hear whining kids in the booth next to us. We cook from scratch and like to see, smell, and squeeze the produce we purchase. No way I trust someone else to pick out my produce. Back in my early firefighter days I was taught how to cook Cuban (some Italian also) food from scratch. There were numerous old timer Cuban firefighters at the department in the 70s and 80s. I learned from the best of them. That’s where I learned to enjoy cooking. I took what I learned home to my wife. Now both of us kick butt in the kitchen.
So publix isn’t the big meanie many say they are? Good, now I can shop knowing I don’t support kicking puppies and kittens.
I know this is way off-topic. When I was student at UF Julie Jenkins was my next door neighbor. I still remember the Mercedes 280 SEL that George bought her for her 21st birthday.
Funny Biden gets credit for the economy, but not the inflation. Ron D gets the responsibility of both. Mind I would argue the only think DeSantis did to bolster the economy was keeping Florida open and perhaps keeping state taxes where they were.
