What will Joe Biden be like in 5 years?

If the election were held today, it looks like there is a good chance Joe Biden would win a 2nd term as POTUS. In 5 years from now, he will be 85 years old, God willing. He is in obvious cognitive breakdown. When we compare the most recent public appearances with appearances he made during the early days if his administration, there is a marked difference in physical and cognitive ability. This is noteworthy, because there was already a great bit of concern about his cognitive breakdown going into the last election. It seems to have accelerated.

In watching recent videos of his meeting with Ukraine's president Zelenskyy, he is seen often staring into space with his mouth hanging open. As he's sitting next to Zelenskyy discussing the war, Biden seems not to even try to make eye contact with Zelenskyy or hide the fact that he is reading prepared notes (a cheat sheet) from his lap. Zelenskyy is youthful and engaging, but does his best to tone it down so as not to show up Biden. It was a horrible look.

I've found 5 clips within the last month that speak for themselves. I would say not only is there a marked difference between Biden of today versus his first months in office, but there is very obviously a huge difference between today and his time as Vice President. If he wins another term, he will be a big eyesore for the US on the world stage. He can barely string together two sentences that make sense.

    Oh he’s toasty.

Give us a legit alternative. I have to vote for Weekend at Bernie’s because the other guy is also not only senile, he’s Weekend at Gulag.

Ultimately, I think that is what Democrats should do. I can't imagine how a Biden cluster will look on Dems 3, 4 years from now and if there's a decent chance you're going to have to replace him then anyway, might as well do it now with the election coming up.

Yeah. I’m not excited to have an old senile man as president. Really I’m not. But the Republican Party is not offering an even remotely sane candidate so what the hell choice do we have? At least we know the Democratic machine can keep the country running. Hopefully they find a decent vice president to take over.

Doesn’t matter. We no longer vote for a competent leader. We vote because we don’t want the other guy.

There should be a law for a certain level mental capacity to run for president. Biden is clearly too gone for this role.

Dems could easily ask Biden to step down at the end of his current term and hand off the baton now. They're in a pickle, because naturally everyone's going to expect the baton to be handed to the current VP. If Biden steps down, but doesn't endorse Harris, what sort of message will that send given his stated intention in 2020 to pick a woman VP? I suppose the Dems could find a different woman, but that cuts down the field quite a bit.

And next year if we are clearly in a recession, what’s your next reason to vote for Biden?

Sure, but Trump is about as damaged as a candidate can get and has his own age concerns. If the Dems can't replace Biden on the ticket and beat Trump with whomever, what does that say? I personally think the Dems could have found an heir apparent. I think they wanted to, but there's a Kamala problem.

I’m not excited about Biden’s cognitive future but he has smart policy wonk nerds working for him and frankly they’re better than any GOP alternative at the moment. Maybe that will change before the election but I doubt it.

recessions happen wtf I mean check the charts. Recent history says a Republican president will tank the economy for the next guy. Of course it’s not that simple, I’m just making a point. The infrastructure plan and the resulting economic benefit of that is worth it. Have you read the expected impact that bill and will have across all sectors? It’s crazy. So 4 more years of that sounds good to me as long as his staff manages him appropriately

His policy wonk nerds can't hold summits with world leaders. Also, you have to be a bit concerned with how he'll present during the campaign next year. I realize they kept him indoors a lot in 2020, but at some point, the man's not going to be able to pull off a 90-minute debate. Whether that's now, a year from now or whenever it is, that has to be a concern.

honestly no one better right now. Shouldn’t risk it. Biden should run. Think he should pick a new vp but that’s just me.

I could see a lot of people such as yourself still voting for Biden in that scenario, sure. But I could also see some people who'll just stay home in that scenario.

That’s why I want trump to run. He gets the blue vote out like no one else.

Kamala is stone-cold done. I don’t have any vitriol for her. It’s just reality. They hide her more than Trump hides Little Marla. She loses to Trump and it’s not close.

    But who?

In typical D fashion, they will trot out a maybe-dead candidate hoping I’m terrified of Trump. And that will work, for ME. But I doubt I’m representative. My tiny bloc doesn’t swing elections. I am voting exclusively because of anti-Trumpism.

When I said alternative, I meant R’s. I’m open. I voted Bush once. And while it’s not necessarily a voting highlight, in retrospect I don’t feel a sense of immense dread about not getting Al Gore. I forget he exists until political rabbit holes get redug.

But Trumpism is a pure menace.

The campaign is the campaign. I’m not a Biden booster, I’m just expressing my thoughts. On the first point, the alternatives right now appear to be Trump, who was loathed by our allies and played by our enemies, or DeSantis, who has the charisma of a hagfish and otherwise exactly zero of the skills required to succeed on the world stage. Give me a better alternative than Biden and I’m all ears.

I don't think he can swap out Harris without booting her from the ticket altogether. If he boots her from the ticket, then what will that say about his pledge to have a woman VP? He could pick a different woman, but then we're really getting into the weeds. If he can't stand by his first female pick, why should we believe in his second one?

Honestly, I think the Dem's plan is to run Biden/Harris next year versus Trump and then they will force Biden out after the election. That way, Oval Office is secure in Dem hands for another 4 years and they can try to let Kamala make her case as POTUS during the remainder of his term.

See my 2nd paragraph in post #18. I think that's the shrewd way out for Dems.

I saw it. I agree that B/H is pretty much a done deal.

If Harris is “promoted”, there will be an unprecedented “incumbent” D primary in that scenario. She has no chance in an election.
