I'll give it to you @Wanne15, you have been critical (NOT NEGATIVE everyone just so y'all know lol) of our OL HS recruiting for years now.
It’s been average at best. We’ve had some very good linemen but most of them were 3* guys. We just haven’t been able to sign very many highly ranked guys there. There aren’t many in the first place and nil price is high. They probably aren’t very valuable on an actual return for a business as a qb.
That’s only for the last few years. We’ve had trouble getting top ranked linemen since Urbs was here.
Right. Like you and I use to point out, Hev wasn't a bad OL coach by any means and it always led us asking each other "what could be if he were a better recruiter and brought in a few more kids who didn't have to be COMPLETELY molded into college ready OL?".
Very little OL talent in Florida this year. Not sure that even matters given how much focus there is on out-of-state talent.
NIL may makes this irrelevant, but my concern with OL has always been with the lack of OL talent in FL compared with other comparable states like Texas and Georgia. I saw statistics some years back about how far players went from their home state to play football, and skill players, offense and defense, were much more likely to go out of state than linemen, and even more so OL. I presume that will change with NIL in play, pressuring kids to branch out farther from home. Nevertheless I am concerned that despite being well situated in some recruitments, like with Calloway and Westphal, we might come up empty and have to settle for some less than ideal backup plans.
I just hope those 3 or 4 are not deep "reaches" candy. I'm a bit shocked UF has not made much hay in 24 with the big uglies. I know we are in on a "ton" but the 2nd or 3rd hat dosen't get one anywhere.
This kid is visiting in June. His film is long but he starts looking pretty good by the middle...more aggressive. https://247sports.com/player/marcus-mascoll-46138320/
I hear you but if that's the case....go into other states and take the top end OL from there. Other schools don't have issues dipping into the state of Florida and getting the top end OL's year in and year out, I wish we were in a position to be able to do the same. Getting Kearney last year to flip from FSU was a great start. Hopefully we can build on that.
Looks like we just whiffed on Westphal (Clemson). With the change in defensive coordinators (a solid move), is it time for Billy to ask why our two headed monster cannot recruit top ten offensive lineman? Looks like we will be recruiting from the portal again.
3, 4 max which means one more if its someone tjey really likes. I don't see 2 more HS lineman but I could be wrong
