The way to prevent understanding of the Ukraine war is to suppress its history. A cartoon version says the conflict began in February 2022 when Vladimir Putin woke up one morning and decided to invade Ukraine. There was no other cause, according to this version, other than unprovoked, Russian aggression against an innocent country. Please use this short, historical guide to share with people who still flip through the funny pages trying to figure out what’s going on in Ukraine. Ukraine Timeline Tells the Story
So it's been a month now into the counteroffensive, and 2 weeks since my last assessment. We've been mired I positional battles since then, with little territorial exchanges. It seems like most progress over the last 2 weeks have been near Bakhmut. Going forward, there are rumors that both sides are planning bigger offensives. On the Ukrainian side, there are rumors that they want to make a big push and make some more substantial progress ahead of the NATO conference next week. On the Russian side, there are rumors that some 180,000 soldiers has amassed in the east and are planning a major offensive toward Kharkiv and around Bakhmut. There are some reports that Ukraine is evacuating civilians in Kharkiv and Sumy, so Ukraine appears to be pretty well aware of these developments. It's possible that the fate of this phase of the war will be decided in the next few weeks, but decisive victories that can significantly affect the outcome of the war remains low IMO. Neither side has exhausted resources for escalation, and I don't see the political will waning drastically without internal political changes in either Russia or the West.
What in your mind makes Russia in this war more honorable or respectable than Nazi Germany in WWII? The torture centers, the kidnapping of children, or the missile targeting of schools, apartments, and medical centers? Or is it the death by sledgehammer that has you impressed?
Any imbecile who starts his story with "anybody who doesn't agree with me believes a cartoon version of history" is not worth listening to. And, in fact, most of the ignorant writers you quote do exactly that. They only write for equally ignorant people who need to blind themselves to the truth. The truth includes facts like NATO is a peaceful organization that has never invaded another country. Until this invasion of Ukraine, few if any European NATO countries could even bring themselves to fund their own military with the 2% of GDP that they agreed to. They kept themselves willfully ignorant of the danger building in Russia so they could focus on their own economies. Only a dimwit would argue that a grouping of underfunded military organizations constitutes a threat against Russia.
The US operation to evacuate the Vietnamese children is much more analogous to this than the kidnapping of Ukrainian children by Russia. Pedro Pan: A children’s exodus from Cuba Although they weren't removed from the country this is much more analogous to what Putin is doing to the Ukrainian children. The Stolen Children of Argentina During the junta’s “Dirty War” between 1976-1982, some 30,000 Argentines, the majority between 16 and 35 years old, were “disappeared.” The junta aimed to remove an entire generation of “subversives.” The bodies of most have never been recovered because they were buried, blown-up, or dropped into the sea. Those victims with children were punished generationally: the regime wanted their children to know nothing of their parents and to grow up as part of the “family” of the fascist regime. Some of these kidnapped children were abandoned on the streets or dumped in orphanages; others were given as rewards to officials and loyal supporters of the generals (as in Adriana’s case).
Considering your post history it's difficult to determine when you're being facetious or when you're being serious.
The come on man wasn’t from me but I suspect it was because you derived stuff linearly. Battles do not go according to plan. Keep on cheering on the Russians. It is what they need now. Russia seems like they are going to collapse they will be projecting strength till they do. I can’t think of an equivalent in this fight but your postings are reminiscent of Baghdad Bob.
That'd be Vietnam. Also, 3 of them are helicopters. On a side note, it's a bit odd to me that patriots are downing helicopters since that's not really what they're designed to do. I wonder if the rumor at the time that it was an ambush was true. If so, nice work by the Ukrainians.
Five shot down in a single day? Can you cite that, or is it your best guess? And I don’t mean destroyed on the ground. Separate discussion. I know, for instance, we lost at least that many between bombers and escorts on “Black Thursday” in April 1951 during an ill-advised mass formation bombing of Yalu River bridges against a goodly number of MiG-15s. But I expect I’ll learn more about that over the next year at the Air Force school I’m going to. Maybe we did lose that many in one day in Vietnam. No idea.

We lost like 10000 aircrafts in Vietnam when counting both fixed-wing aircrafts and helicopters. That's over 2 a day on average, so I'm sure there were multiple days when we lost 5 or more.
