It's been said here often over the years. Sure there is a component about running a competent program to recruiting well but money has always been a factor. So sick of the narrative that Bama has been recruiting on the up and up. Georgia now too
Parity is a temporary illusion. There is going to be great disparity as the new arms race of NIL shifts the landscape. If we don't get real limits in place we will have a bunch of NY Yankees buying championships while others go broke.
Not possible to recruit tgat much better than everyone. Bama , Georgia, Osu. Clemson seems to pay well but not have as deep of pockets. They buy a few of tge top guys but can’t afford an entire class like A& M did. Dumbo getting fired could be scary if a decent coach go there’s.
Mediocre wasn't a good descriptive but they weren't always top 5 or even 10 when Shula and others were there. They had the system to keep them from falling off the map for sure though. Even during the 80s and 90s when a few teams dominated recruiting they still had some parity amongst the top programs. Bama locking down top classes year after year should have raised some eyebrows but of course it didn't. Now Georgia is doing the same. Personal opinion here has been that Bama knew the NCAA had no power anymore and they promised Saban everything. Win at all costs and let the ncaa try something... No title since 92 and very little national relevance in that time was too much for the Tahd boosters to continue.
In case you have not been paying attention, that has already happened a long time ago . The only difference now is that everyone can play the game and the powers may shift. It is now much more expensive to buy your roster then it was previously. That’s the only difference.
When coaches don’t do their job, the money dries up and the coach gets fired. Just buying a roster is not enough. The coach still has a job to do and a program to run. It’s just not possible without first buying a roster.
The point is that we dont know who will end up with the biggest payrolls yet. And that caps will need to be made and enforced.
Except courts said you can’t cap it. There’s no draft or contracts to limit roster movement. The nfl has the model already perfected but why would college teams be interested in that.
Michigan been beating Day regularly. Urban did not lose to Harbaugh. Day having trouble beating Michigan puts a log of pressure on him.
