No, it's a right all the way down, but you can lose it. It's never a privilege.

So you tie it just to crime. There's already something like that in effect with respect to felons.

Sorry, you can’t bait and switch. The past of the Democratic Party, from slavery through Jim Crow, is the history and heritage of your party. You can argue that your party has changed. You can argue that the Republican Party has changed. But you cannot push your political heritage off on others. They were Democrats. They behaved badly. Acknowledge it, claim it, own it, and move on.

I’ll break it down to see if the denialists can break down the break down.

Poor people commit crime. Because rich people really have no reason to. And when they do, they have resources to get out of it.

Here, non-white people over-represent the poor. By design.

Ergo, most crime will be committed by non-honky.

Make those crimes carry the additional burden of being unable to change the very systems that perpetuate this dynamic. Only people who have benefited all along now choose how to proceed.

    “Do you see??”

Of course. And we liiiike it.

Looking at the list of crimes covered under the law, as someone posted earlier, it seems to me that most are not linked to poverty. The ones bolded below are the ones that could be related to poverty, although not necessarily so. Nine out of 23. By the way, was carjacking a crime in the 1890s?
    • Voter Fraud
    • Murder
    • Rape
    • Bribery
    • Theft
    • Carjacking
    • Arson
    • Obtaining money or goods under false pretense
    • Perjury
    • Forgery
    • Embezzlement
    • Bigamy
    • Armed Robbery
    • Extortion
    • Larceny
    • Felony Bad Check
    • Felony Shoplifting
    • Receiving Stolen Goods
    • Robbery
    • Timber Larceny
    • Unlawful taking of motor vehicle
    • Statutory Rape
    • Larceny under lease or rental agreement

Clearly, that list was not made for white people.

How so? Do you consider the 2A a right or a privilege? ... because news flash for you, you can lose that "right", just as you can lose your voting "right". Nothing "self-contradicting" about what he said.

What I am wondering is there some sort of systemic thing going on? Ie could blacks be charged with the disqualifying crimes and whites be charged with something similar but non disqualifying.

I totally agree. I am just wondering why his little political lesson ended in the 1940's? Almost all of the Dixiecrats became Republicans or exited politics. Hardly any of them remained part of the Democratic party which was largely controlled by the northeastern and western voting blocks of the party.

By the 1960's, Strom led his allies into the Republi-ban party as their "conservative views" were more closely aligned with that party. YOUR party welcomed the Southern Democratic racists like Thurmond with open arms.

I mean, if we are giving history lessons, why not tell the whole story, not just the first half and then act like the second half has never happened

They were Democrats, that became Republicans. Thaddeus Stevens, the aptly named Scourge of the South, epitomized the Radicals.

We acknowledge it, and disavowed it. And the Republican Party claimed the position. Strom and the “Dixiecrats” in 48 after Truman integrated the Armed Forces, vowing segregation forever, LBJ in 64, prescient about the future electoral impact of signing the Civil Rights Act of 1964,, Reagan kicking off his campaign in Philadelphia, MS, on a states rights platform. Trent Lott at the same time saying that the nation would be better off if Strom had won 22 years earlier, then reupping those sentiments 22 years later. Donald Trump. Ron DeSantis. State legislatures disenfranchising black voters with surgical precision

Second amendment says the government can’t infringe on your right to own a gun. There is no similar provision in the constitution regarding voting. you have a right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but it can all be taken away by someone like Biden or Garland. I guess I would say the process and procedure is the distinguishing factor
