By: Eric Fawcett -- June 10, 2023 Florida’s 2024 class got a massive boost on Saturday as center John Bol announced his commitment to the Gators. Bol had been a priority target for the Gators ever since Todd Golden and his staff got to Gainesville when they made the 2024 class a priority, believing they could bring top high school talent to Florida. Coach G has been putting band-aids on our program via the portal but long term he needs to recruit elite talent out of HS for continuity. This is a great start.
Great pickup He has a great post move where he stands sideways and kind of just disappears. Hard for the defense to pick him up when they can’t see him.. This young man needs some calories asap!
Clayton (94.00), Handlogten (94.00) and Pullen (92.00) are pretty nice 'band-aids'. Reeves (91.00) was a 5* recruit and didn't pan out....but I hear what you're saying. By the way, Clayton and Handlogten will be around for a couple years too.
This is breaking news. So, Pullin will get 6 years of college basketball. Is this the first time this has ever happened to a college basketball player?
My bad, misread the clip below from an article. Good thing the resident Know It All fact checked me. "Pullin made 77 starts and 109 appearances in his four years at UC Riverside, becoming a full-time starter as a sophomore. He is ranked the No. 12 point guard and the No. 56 overall player in the On3 transfer portal rankings."
Wouldn’t the extra covid year essentially allow for 5 years of undergrad and an additional 6th as a graduate? Idk
That definitely seems to part of his plan. Even alluded to it in his presser. Bringing in portal kids with upside and multiple years of eligibility left who have used their free transfer (Richard, Fudge, Clayton, Handlogten) alongside freshmen who are physically ready to play rather than projects who will take time or who will transfer early because they don't want to wait to play (thus, Haugh reclassifying), then fill it out with super seniors/grad transfers who can immediately fill remaining holes. On paper, we stand to bring back 9 guys next year. Obviously we may lose some to the league (Kugel, but there is always an outside chance on guys like Richard, Clayton), and you are always gonna have portal attrition. But with two solid kids committed for 2004, plus a couple of other high profile recruits seriously considering us, we are in very good shape to not be as dependent on incoming transfers next year.
"My client." Jeez. What has recruiting come to? That's a rhetorical question, by the way; it's quite clear what it's come to.
"According to 247 Sports, elements of Bol’s NIL deal couldn’t be agreed upon over the last 20 days, and it led to Bol pulling his commitment from the Gators." Deja Vu.
