The question maybe should be not is it right or wrong but does the executive branch have the power to do this?

Can the next President decide cancel other debts issued by Governmental agencies?

Let's look at the details of that relief. Whats to fear? I'm sure everyone who participated needed those funds. I'm also certain politicians on both sides passed up on taking them and surely didn't take advantage of their positions in accessing them......

Let's get into nuance of that covid relief. Sure. Let's see what it reveals.

Doubt any, they likely have been spending as most spend what they have.

What's bizarre is that I didn't bring up covid relief to begin with but again, let's look.

My son is looking at going into the military.
Currently the bonuses for the Navy are crazy.
Plus while enlisted you can get your degree for FREE. Then you still have the GI bill after to use also..

The military is begging for people.

Not a problem really because we’re the ones giving her the money to pay it and she only owes 10k. She has the money in her savings account that we’ve already given her. Not worried about my kid but concerned about others. Student loan programs need serious reform.

    Oh sure I’ll agree there.
That’s the way the Gov set it up though it was rushed and ripe for fraud.

But that doesn’t make the same as choosing to borrow money for college.

Business couldn’t chose to stay open. They were forced closed by Government mandate.

I’d be happy if they made a REAL effort to claw back the fraud, like the guy in Seminole county that bought a 7M house with his money.

Waiving the obligation to repay the loan is in fact forgiving debt. And nobody disputed that in the past when this statute was used numerous times (particularly to help veterans and soldiers).

Why would I care about Nancy Pelosi's opinion? The statute says what it says. If Nancy Pelosi had instead said Biden has the power, would that matter to you at all? (I bet not.)

More demagoguery about why you dislike the policy. Biden won the election. He ran on promising limited debt relief. The American people voted for him. You can dislike the policy all you want. That's not a principled argument for why this legal ruling is correct, unless you're saying it is proper for SCOTUS to veto executive policies they dislike.

Maybe. She tried to pay it since she had the money in her account. Like I said, no big deal for us but it is for a lot of people.
