Your post has nothing to do with the post you replied to.
Why do you do these things?
He made a great point. Education is likely too late in HS too. Kids need to learn the fundamentals in elementary school or it gets very difficult for them.
No one wants people to struggle in life. It’s complex and it starts with family culture.

I've also read that high school have more correlation to college success than test scores. But my point is that the student from a tougher background needs more personal drive to achieve the same results than a student who grows up in a home with two involved, college educated parents where money is not a continual struggle, etc.

    What a silly assertion.

Did I say *everything* in life is based on evil intent and racism? I did not. I tend to not make absolute statements.

But when we look at cases the Supreme Court chooses, the outcome of this case was telegraphed for at least a year. Why? We know the agendas of the people involved, and there’s some degree of predictability. Cases are taken up by the court to accomplish said ideological aims.

Regarding individual people who advocate positions about “diversity” (whether that’s David Duke or Donald Trump) - I’m not going to ignore the untold times they’ve demonstrated the exact opposite of colorblind behavior (in fact the Donald has demonstrated the very types of discriminatory behaviors and racist stereotyping which affirmative action would be designed to redress). This is the leader of one of our two major political parties! Does this mean everyone falling on that side of the issue thinks this way or has such evil in them? Of course not, but a substantial % do, and some of those that do give a false lip-service to “colorblind” society. I’d think some may not be self aware or live in a self imposed bubble. For instance, if one lives in a 100% white gated golf community and speaks of high brow concepts like how we now live in a post-racist colorblind society, I’d argue such a person might be living in something of a bubble. This doesn’t necessarily make them evil, it may make them incapable of evaluating the issue.

"The trick is to make them qualified by giving everyone a great education". Awesome. There is zero support for that from the GOP. In fact almost every action they take makes it harder for those without privilege to get the same OPPORTUNITIES. So the trick is really to deny those without privilege equal opportunity and then deny them the ability to compete with those who did get that privilege. Mission accomplished. This is from last month:

House Republicans' proposal to cut a broad range of critical programs by 22% will:

    • Gut Funding for Low-Income Students. The proposal would cut approximately $4 billion in funding for schools serving low-income children, impacting an estimated 26 million students and reducing program funding to its lowest level in almost a decade—a cut equivalent to removing more than 60,000 teachers and specialized instructional support personnel from classrooms.
    • Reduce Support for Students with Disabilities. Under the proposal, as many as 7.5 million children with disabilities would face reduced supports—a cut equivalent to removing more than 48,000 teachers and related services providers from the classroom.
    • Slash Mental Health Support for Students. The House Republican proposal would limit educators' abilities to address student mental health issues and prevent violence, suicide, and drug abuse by cutting Title IV, Part A funding for schools by about $300 million.
    • Make College More Expensive. A 22% budget cut would likely eliminate Pell Grants altogether for 80,000 students while reducing the maximum award by nearly $1,000 for the remaining 6.6 million recipients, making it harder to attend and afford college.
Eliminate Student Debt Relief and Borrower Supports. The proposal would cancel the President's student debt relief plan, keeping much needed emergency student loan relief of up to $20,000 for more than 40 million Americans recovering from the effects of the pandemic. It would also block the creation of new, more affordable student loan payment plans.

Another reminder how dumb it was to let RBG decide her own fate and die before being replaced..

They already do. Posts on these boards all the time right after the acceptance letters go out in February being upset that their kids couldn’t get in and that UF let’s in too many “foreigners, out of state” kids.

When my oldest graduated in 2012 her ceremony was with the College of Engineering. Almost all of the doctoral and master's candidates were Asian, save one white male. When his name was announced the O Dome went crazy. Frankly, it was kind of embarrassing.

In Mississippi, inner city blacks in their one notable city can’t even get clean drinking water. The feds are having to do an end run around the state to get funding for water.

I’m sure those people will be pleased to know we live in a post racist Utopia where their applications to Harvard will be considered only on merit. :emoji_joy:

I know ya'll struggle with basic math, but if RBG were still on the Court, decision would've been the same but 5-4 instead of 6-3.

Barrett wasn't necessary to this decision, so RBG retiring early wouldn't have changed anything.

Time to pack the court if the next election makes it possible. There is nothing to lose now. It is simply another legislative branch of unelected politicians.

The MAIN DRIVER behind my decision to vote for Hillary was based on the fact of the upcoming Supreme Court replacements.

While I "hoped" that Trump would respect the mantle of the presidency, any decent voter, whom looked into the history of the man, should have clued into what to expect.

Trump did not disappoint, he turned out even WORSE than I expected. Congratulations Trump, hope that jail cell gives you time to ponder it all. Once you get yours, Jared and Ivanka have a little explaining to do for that 1 billion dollar Saudi bribe. Hunter Biden my ass.

WOW- nonsensical CNN talking points. I have come to realize as I grow older that the reason our country is in decline is because of political rhetoric on both sides. The misinformed masses breed vitriol and the only winners are the few hundred in power.

The dems will need everything to just hold onto their current advantage in the Senate the next election. Court reform is a non-starter.

No shit, was speaking more broadly and also why voting matters.

They had a 5-4 for a long time, but the ideological make up of the majority has changed intentionally to push right wing ideological outcomes..

I’ve also seen it theorized on this board and others that is why student body interest in football has gone down over the years - too many foreigners and types that love “the other” football. They totally lament that, but also “we’re colorblind now”. I’m truly embarrassed for people with that type of thinking.

As a state University, UF’s goal should first be to educate the population of the state. That means every county across the entire state, every demographic including Hispanic dreamers (people brought here as kids, fully qualified as students, but may not have “papers”). Like any state school, UF is wise to try and recruit as many national merit scholar types as possible from out of state. But that should be the one and only focus of out of state admissions where the in-state pool is highly competitive, carving out a slice of seats for the elite of the elite who want to come from outside the state or abroad.

Graduate school is something else though, that’s just as much about conducting research and bringing home $$$. So diversity matters a bit less, and the recruiting pool i would guess is naturally less “Florida- centric” for specialized graduate programs anyway. Hence, some programs will seem dominated by Asians or Russians. Like little fiefdoms for whatever reason. For a larger program that are in-effect larger sample sizes (like an MBA or Law School) you might expect to see some level of overall diversity and FL focus more like the undergraduate programs.

Why do you fight against truth and justice? They finally got it right. We are seeking equality and color blindness and you’re butthurt over the decision.
    It’s a bad look.

I want anyone who will benefit from college and wishes to go to be able to go. I honestly, like 99% of the posters here, put little thought into the subject. But why do you think college is the only avenue to success? There are plenty of great trades that pay 6 figures. You are stuck on talking points. BTW-how does using the welder’s tax money to pay off the barista’s/women’s studies major’s college debt help anyone go to college?
