It's sad really. They just want to feel like something in their lives is better than is was in ours and, well, it's hard without making up some kind of fairy tale.
Wow, such an edgy take. Congrats. You're the first one to come in with LaDouche over MJ. Give the man a prize for his indefensible take.
What I liked about Dr. J, besides his transcendent game ,was the fact that he NEVER argued with the refs. No cussing, no eye rolling or foot stomping like the stars of today. He always said there was no point in arguing calls. Loved that.
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and here is mine. In his rookie year, in the NBA finals, Magic Johnson moved from point guard to center because Jabar was injured. He played it old school with his back to the basket and led the game in points and rebounds. He is the only player that I have ever seen that, I think, could have made the NBA Hall of Fame playing any of the five positions. BTW - glad to see you posting GatorPrincess8
When I was a kid my Dad took us to a fsu basketball game to watch Dave Cowen play against JU with Arlis Gilmore.
But you are doing exactly what you are saying today’s kids are doing. Every generation has their goats. Pointless to compare.
I think that an athlete's greatness is often as much about what they meant to their sport as much as their skills. Muhammad Ali transcended boxing, as did Tim Tebow in college football.
Personally, I think the 1980's Pistons style of play was what finally tipped the balance over to calling a tighter game (that and the star player treatment that began around the same time). Some of those games just became unwatchable with all the grabbing, elbowing, and other blatant physical muggings that were a routine part of their play. IMO, it is a much better game without all the football brawl type play...basketball was never designed to have that much contact and the game flows much better without it.
Grew up watching Bart Starr vs Johnny U, Bill Russel vs Wilt and West now today Joker vs the Greek Freak vs Embiid vs Lebron. Mahomes vs Burrow. You can't compare different generations and the games constantly evolve, but..Older folk such as myself have seen more and my eyeballs don't lie to me. The thing that hacks me off about some young fans is that they think the older guys were cave men, not athletes. My standard come back is that Bill Russell at 6'9" also high jumped 6'9" in college at Univ of San Francisco....how's that for an athlete? Ever seen a video of Wilt sprinting on the track at U Kansas? I'm also convinced if MJ and Lebron played one on one for huge money-Jordan would make LJ cry. (Yes I realize Bron is much bigger heavier stronger). I don't deny today's athletes are better trained, and better tuned nutritionally. I do not think they are as ruthless and savage or tough as the old generation. There are exceptions but I'll stand by that generalization. It's an endless debate, but just my two cents
Bill Russell> 11 titles No question- please SMH Most kids I know say Brady > Mahomes. Less than 5% of fans would argue that. After Brady, Bradshaw and Montana.
True, Arlis was my high school principal. I stand corrected. None the less, growing up in the panhandle he was that kid from Chipley that did good.
IMO, no he's not. Not yet anyway. His career is only like halfway done. Can't talk about being a GOAT this early. If the 2nd half of his career mimics the first half, then certainly he would be in the conversation.
