Unfortunately, that doesn't fit with precedent in this country. For example, the government stood silent and attempted to allow MLB to get its house in order with regards to the rampant PED usage back in the late 90's. As HR records were being challenged and reset on a yearly basis, they finally decided it was in the public's best interest to intervene in a private professional league. Which is how this issue will end if it's allowed to go much further. For women's sports, the collegiate level (on which the NCAA has a monopoly) is going to be the highest level they will ever able to compete in. If competitive balance is being manipulated and these women have no where else to turn, it becomes an issue of the public's best interest. Incidents like these do not bode well for the NCAA...
I acknowledged that collegiate level sports need to ensure fairness and opportunity for women, comply with Title IX, etc. I think high school sports are an issue, too, since they're often very competitive, there are college scholarships at stake, public funds involved, etc. I think the U.S. government has had a role in overseeing MLB for some time but don't know the history there. Could Congress force MLB to create a womens' baseball league? Is there any limit to government's ability to regulate professional sports? What about a private recreational softball or volleyball league deciding whether to allow a trans player to participate or whether to have co-ed play?
You care also. It’s ok to admit it. And who cancels someone? Seriously? You know people who have been canceled so Go look it up if you need reminding.
Yeah, seriously. So a board, like swimming, decides to make it much harder for trans people to compete. Who cancels this person? Game this process out for me, if you can.
There is no reason to be obtuse or flippant. Nobody inside or outside our government gives a damn what your private recreational softball league does. I just laid it out. Government will intervene where it's in the public's best interests to do so. We're not holding Congressional hearings over beer pong or drunken beach volleyball games. But when collegiate All-American athletes begin to lose accolades and trophies due to blatant abuse of fair competition rules and oh yeah, they're feeling raped in the locker room, Congress starts to listen.
I’ll use soccer as an example. Say USA soccer comes out and says no trans soccer players. Almost immediately I would imagine the Rapinoe and friends group would call for the womens team to not play until they reverse the decision. Then the board would most likely be replaced or those who voted yes would be booted. Not hard to imagine. Also the Penn swimmers were told to shut up and that they were not to discuss the Lia Thomas issue or they would regret it. Girls got told to shut up and swim.
Okay, so the athletes you claim to be protecting (e.g., Rapinoe, a current player on USWNT) would be the ones to start this cancellation?
Yes, just because Rapinoe thinks like you do doesn’t make it right. See you didn’t mention Riley Gaines, wonder why.
Why would I? You brought up soccer. She isn't a soccer player. You were the one who chose the people. So just to be clear, you think that the board is worried about being cancelled by their own athletes, who don't agree with you?
You think every women's soccer player has the same opinion as Rapinoe? Then you are beyond talking to. The ironic thing would be a trans player comes in and takes Rapinoe's spot, then she would probably be signing a different tune.
So then how would one player single-handedly cancel the board? Even if she didn't agree to playing, the USWNT is quite strong.
I already explained the scenario. Go read it again. It's obvious you are in agreement with Rapinoe. It's cool, at least she owns it.
Here was your description: Okay, so how many USWNT members are her "friends group" in this scenario? Because if it is a minority opinion, how would they be able to prevent them from playing?
Nothing bizarre about it. When you have people policing how "feminine" women look to try and "stop" transgender people, cisgender women who aren't "feminine enough" are going to get harassed and threatened, if not worse. 1. Trans women can grow boobs due to the hormones they're taking. They don't necessarily need to have implants. 2. I've seen some fat, hairy dudes walking around topless with big man tits. Nobody cared.
1. The boobs displayed in the picture were fake. 2. Man boobs aren't woman boobs. 3. I think it's fair to say that trans women are actually men while simultaneously thinking that the female sex characteristic of female breasts is something that should be concealed, even if it's fake or artificially developed through hormone therapy.
Because believe it or not sometimes people will back a teammate even if you don’t agree with them. You obviously didn’t play much team sports growing up or you would know this. But I like how you try to go off on tangents to take away your true stance, which has been shown to be you support trans women in sports.
Okay, so now they don't really agree with her, but all just support her (it should be noted, that the reverse apparently can't be the case- because that is just how team sports work). This scenario is becoming more and more convoluted to cover for the weakness of the suggestion.
Good try but you are wrong. It’s ok. You and Rapinoe are in agreement. At least she owns it. Penn swimmers actually got shut down. Proves my point. So you are a closet lia Thomas fan. Shocking…
Exactly my point. That's a wholly inconsistent stance. "Trans women are men, except when and where I think they don't look like men. Then, they should be treated as women, but only if it's convenient for me."
