This is it Gators. There is no tomorrow. Gotta leave it all out on the field. This team has earned it’s place in UF and college baseball history.
I answered you in the other thread, but he has warmed up in several games, and has been in the mix after the games. He was down signing autographs after the game today, and seemed in good spirits. I would say he is available and ready to go if called upon.
Let's close things out and get the championship!!! Play smart and hard, and execute to win!!!! Go Gators!!!!
Posted this at the end of Sunday's game but in case anyone missed it who is there in Omaha. Still reading thru the whole thread but for Gator fans in Omaha here's a must for the game tomorrow. Get to the mall where Sully got his shirt and have them make up a bunch of orange and blue shirts that say "Yes, I can count to 24. Can you?" and sell them outside the stadium tomorrow. If LSU comes to Gainesville next year for a baseball game, we all should have them ready. Now someone take it from here and go make you some money.
God bless you Gatorgal! Your status posts are outstanding and many gator fans appreciate all that you do, including me. Thanks!
Late in Sunday's game, the ESPN/LSU boys were putting the blowout loss behind them and were discussing what their team needed to do to win on Monday. They felt circumstances required that Skenes pitch and the best course would be for him to start, rather than come out of the bullpen. That would allow him to complete his normal pregame routine, rather than deal with the uncertainties- including having to be ready on short notice- that relievers have to face. That makes good sense, even if a pitch count might keep him to just a few innings. I admire Skenes' great season and wish him no harm Monday and a good pro career, especially if he plays for a MLB team I like. BUT I wouldn't mind a bit if he has a short term physical issue that can be blamed on the LSU coaches whe Gators are competing with LSU for top pitching recruits. Has Sully ever had a pitcher start three times in 10 days for 250 or more pitches? Knowledgeable Gator fans are used to Sully's conservative approach to pitcher development, which is a great selling point for kids and parents who see college ball as a critical step toward long term pro success, not to mention big bucks.
After yesterday, I would be shocked if he doesn't throw at all. If he doesn't start and UF gets out to a big lead early, I doubt he comes out of the bullpen. My guess would be he starts and he gives them some juice for 3-4 innings.
Mute the TV and sinc up the game to WRUF with Jeff and Sean’s broadcast. It’s a way better experience! Go Gators!
Game 1, Florida slightly favored, -140 Game 2, even Game 3, LSU slightly favored, -145 I’m guessing this is a Skenes effect. LSU vs. Florida (Jun 26, 2023) Live Score - ESPN
From an LSU beat writer about their SS: "The Tigers shortstop is 1-for-30 at the plate in Omaha with his only hit coming in LSU's opening game against Tennessee. He's also struggled defensively, committing an error in both Tennessee games before making two more on Sunday. But despite all of his faults in Omaha, LSU doesn't have an obvious potential replacement for Thompson on its bench. "
