Congress is free to do whatever they want. Republicans own the House. The legal system worked seemingly effectively. We’ll see the outcome with Trump’s legal woes but I have very little doubt the system will work effectively.

Hunter Biden illegally possessed a firearm, lied to obtain the firearm, withheld 1.5 million dollars from the IRS, has numerous photos online of him with prostitutes and crack pipes, and there are messages from him extorting Chinese oligarchs while next to his father, who happens to be the current President of the United States.

If you genuinely think any of us could've done all of that in plain view for the public to see and all we get is a little slap on the wrist over taxes and possessing the firearm... then you are beyond gullible. One might even think you were born yesterday.

Of course I don't think most people talking about this are gullible. They're just standing up for their team, which right now includes the Justice Department. The institutions are systemically racist and need to be overhauled until they explicitly show prejudice against your political opponents, in which case they need to be protected at all costs.

It's a cynical game and everyone sees it. Some people are just defending it because they have to defend their boys.

But Democrats impeached Trump over the conversation with Zelensky.

Wouldn't you agree that if that was a principled stance, shouldn't a Democratic Senate agree to convict?

Trump, on a recorded conversation, withheld aid from our ally unless they agreed to announce that they were investigating his political opponent.

There's an unverified text message mentioning Joe and alleged audio recordings of Biden that no one has.

These are not the same. I'm afraid you're still at the peepee tape stage of allegations against Biden but by all means Congress should investigate.

Bribery and Extortion off the top of my head.

The Constitution provides that the House of Representatives “shall have the sole Power of Impeachment” and that the President “shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors”.

    Only Congress?

Although impeachment is the proper course of action right now as a worst-case scenario for Joe Biden, it's not the proper course of action for Hunter who would also likely be guilty of criminal activity.

    Adding a very important qualifier.
But Democrats impeached Trump over the conversation with Zelensky in which Trump threatened to withhold aid to Ukraine unless Zelensky found dirt or even threatened to find dirt on Joe Biden his most likely opponent in the 2020 election.
In other words Trump was impeached in response to attempted extortion of the leader of an independent country dependent on the US for aid. Also, in 2020 the Senate still had a Republican majority and even if the Democrats had a majority it wouldn't have come anywhere near close to the 2/3 required to convict and remove the president from office. The difference between Congress today and Congress in 1974 is that if Nixon didn't resign the House would have voted to impeach him and pursuant to a bipartisan vote in the Senate he would have been convicted and removed from office. Unlike today's Republicans in which loyalty to their leader takes precedence over the rule of law the Senate of 1974 including enough Republicans to reach a 2/3 majority almost certainly would have voted to remove Nixon from office. In Trump's first impeachment trial every Republican in the Senate with the exception of Mitt Romney voted against conviction.

I think you’re conflating Hunter with his dad. You have zero tangible evidence that Hunter committed these crimes, let alone Joe.

And would you please answer this question: what influence did Joe have to sell in 2017 or 2018?

Even assuming that the message is accurate because Hunter said that his father was present it doesn't mean that Joe Biden was aware of Hunter's stunt to extort an apparent bribe. Keep in mind that Hunter sent the message in 2017. Last time I checked Joe Biden was no longer vice president and it would be almost four years before he took office as president. Maybe you have knowledge that hasn't been made public but it would seem to me that Joe Biden would have virtually no influence over then President Trump, House Speaker Paul Ryan and the Republican majority in the House or Mitch McConnell and the Republican majority in the Senate. The message was nothing more than an attempt by Hunter Biden to con the Chinese oligarch and Joe Biden was most likely unaware of his sleazy son's stunt.

So it was the fact that it was the leader of a foreign country and that the
"attempted extortion" was tied to influencing an election.

That was the straw that broke the camel's back?

And Donald Trump saying that "he could've declassified the documents but didn't" could've just been him talking crap. Yet, that's being treated as a smoking gun.

Just because Hunter Biden said it doesn't make it true, but it's still a pretty damning piece of evidence.

At the bare minimum this warrants both an immediate criminal investigation into Hunter and a Congressional investigation.

I have to agree that Hunter Biden and Donald Trump have the same level of credibility; they're both con artists who have no qualms about lying if it would benefit them. My question to you is if James Comer finds nothing illegal or improper on the part of Joe Biden should he be censured as Adam Schiff was for his committee's investigation into links between the Trump campaign and Russia?

    Actually, yes.

The crux of the issue with Trump, was that he was taking taxpayer dollars, and using that as leverage for personal gain.

It wasn’t a straight extortion or bribery. He was using U.S. government resources as leverage (the withholding of such aid), attempting to extract personal political gain for himself in an election as tribute for Ukraine receiving that legally authorized aid. This extortion is what Trump later referred to as a “perfect call”.

Hunter wasn't using his daddy's position to extort Chinese Oligarchs?

What exactly do you think he was threatening them with? Nude photos of his wife?

I do not. Why can’t you see the difference in Trump ACTUALLY doing what he was accused of with evidence and facts everyone agrees on and ONLY innuendo with zero facts on Biden? No one disputes what Trump did, they only dispute was it an impeachable offense. There is zero evidence Joe Biden DID anything.
