I’m kinda slow in my old age, but bear with me. LSU self imposes a penalty of “vacating” 37 games and the only significant consequence of that penalty is that Les Miles is not likely to be added to the College Football HOF in his lifetime. Which is probably just fine with most LSU fans. Did I get that right?
What makes you so sure? What LSU did here was super sleazy. And I am sure that is only the tip of the iceberg.
I get your point, but LSU "self" vacated, to avoid more severe penalties. Your comparison is not valid. But I agree that it is not a meaningful punishment. LSU and the NCAA saw to that.
Obviously it doesnt change the results on the field and I’ve said this before but just from an accounting standpoint, the losses to the other teams should be vacated as well. The collective overall winning % of all ncaa teams is well below .500
Rear view mirror punishment. You want to stop this? Three year postseason ban. Three year 50% reductions in scholarships. No redshirting or gray shirting, and no recruiting beyond state borders. You have to make this hurt.
Taking away victories. You can’t actually do that. They won those games. That’s just a pretend punishment. If I knew that’s all that would happen, I’d cheat my ass off, go 14-0 every year and never look back. Go ahead, change it to 0-14 , I don’t give a shit.
Technically, I don't believe he would be at fault, but, he would be out of a bike. I think stolen property gets confiscated with no compensation to the recipient.
Bobby Bowden got a bunch a of wins vacated, too, but, fsu still claimed a winning season streak and a bowl streak that should have been considered broken during that period.
And, you would think with all the given built in advantages they have here in Louisiana over everybody else (state legislature makes sure of that), not having to really compete here, they would not need to go that route.
That would be interesting, especially the last point. Because in football and other sports, like baseball (look no further than this current team that 2 of its major players from FLORiDA), you do NOT have this plethora of talent here in Louisiana anymore, like they used to. There is an exodus of this state, and it will get worse with this flood insurance debacle. LSU will have to more and more rely on the portal and OOS recruiting to stay relevant in years to come.
