I don't know what is typical for accidental shootings. Dick Cheney shot somebody (non-fatally), and I don't recall any discussion about criminal charges, although there was some talk about how much beer had been consumed. Maybe he got special treatment, as well, but I don't know if charges are usually automatic or not.

He shot at low birds because he didn’t follow hunting rules. Much more egregious than discharging what was supposed to be an empty weapon confirmed by 2 paid professionals. Never a peep about charges. Didn't they him after that?

Baldwin's situation is more compelling than that. The revolver wasn't supposed to be empty, it was supposed to be loaded with blanks or dummy rounds. That would require a much more thorough investigation of the weapon/ammunition to confirm.

The armorer just upgraded her charges to include tampering with evidence — accused of handing over illegal drugs to a third person after the shooting so she wouldn’t be caught with them. The prosecutor says she drinking heavily and smoking pot during the evenings, and “was likely hungover when she loaded a prop gun used by actor Alec Baldwin that fired a live round of ammunition during a rehearsal”….

Her defense team, in the other hand, had a lot to say about the investigation… they were apparently accidentally copied in an email from the prosecutors lead investigator, where he had this to say...

Shilling wrote, “Knowing full well the probability that this email may be subject to IPRA (Inspection of Public Records Act), I am compelled to respectfully offer the following.”

“The conduct of the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office during and after their initial investigation is reprehensible and unprofessional to a degree I still have no words for,” he said in the email dated June 20. “Not I or 200 more proficient investigators than I can/could clean up the mess delivered to your office in October 2022 (1 year since the initial incident…inexcusable).”

That was accidental? I thought it was a warning shot.

Alec Baldwin may be charged again in fatal Rust movie set shooting | CNN

Now ... they are thinking of charging Baldwin again, putting it to a grand jury this time ... doesn't really say what the "new facts" are ...

“After extensive investigation over the past several months, additional facts have come to light that we believe show Mr. Baldwin has criminal culpability in the death of Halyna Hutchins and the shooting of Joel Souza,” New Mexico special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis said in a statement Tuesday. “We believe the appropriate course of action is to permit a panel of New Mexico citizens to determine from here whether Mr. Baldwin should be held over for criminal trial.”

He says that he didn't pull the trigger. Seems to me that instead of going after Baldwin again they should try to find the real shooter.

The Armorer got 18 months, the max sentence....

She was the one who brought the live bullets to the set, and it came out that they found even more live bullets on the set, in prop drawers, and in the "ammo belts" some of the characters were wearing.

Read a little bit about her and she didn't do herself any favors in court. The judge said she was unremorseful. There was a jail phone recording where she was blaming everyone else, saying the judge was "paid off", but didn't take any responsibility herself.

    Baldwin's case is still pending.

The Armorer deserved the 18 months and more as she was the main reason for someone getting killed. Baldwin is a liar if nothing else in my opinion. The revolver did not just "go off" without someone pulling the trigger. Also there is no way to mistake a live round for a blank.

I wonder if he bears any responsibility for being the producer. Ie he set up the situation that led to the shooting. As an actor doing what you are told by the armorer and director seems like the right thing to do.

Depends on which end of the round you are looking at if they are loaded in a revolver. I've also read that the gun was loaded with dummy rounds which would make the identification far more difficult.

Pointing a gun, with blanks or no blanks, and pulling the trigger killed that woman. Baldwin is guilty of a crime. The question is which crime will be be found guilty of?

Regarding the liar part. Yeah, I'm not sure why he went with that lie in the first place. Maybe he really didn't pull it, but I think his best answer was, it was supposed to be a blank.
