So, it was the NCAA's job to enforce this for the Feds and State? And why was this ever "their lane" in the first place?

So, what are you all worked up about? They're not mandating no testing, they just don't care anymore about weed and, thus, the schools aren't going to waste their good money on testing for something that isn't banned. Get over it. What a goofy thing to be mad about. Meanwhile, you seem completely down with the skeevieness of NIL, which is actually going to (or already has) ruin the sport we all love. Pro leagues have stopped testing for it for a while now. NCAA following suit.

I think that is a gross over generalization. I know plenty of people on both sides of the political spectrum that drink, and plenty that smoke weed.

So do I, but "some people" still maintain that cartoonish image and that's pretty much the only explanation for it. Because, as you and I know, it's really no big deal and probably a much better choice than alcohol and everything else.

Keep in mind that while alcohol and weed can be legal your employer can discipline or fire you if you come to work under the influence. So, the UAA I suspect can dismiss or discipline a player as they see fit for safety or performance reasons if it's their policy. So, that's not the issue. It's more like acceptance of reality. In the end I can't imagine this would change much if anything given current use, attitude and availability today, even in deep red Missouri where its legal to use.

That’s ridiculous. Republicans smoke just as much weed as libs.

I agree with your points but I know a whole lot of ‘political conservatives’ who either still smoke weed, did smoke weed, or even if they haven’t are not down on weed. So it may be convenient, but that’s a bad stereotype

Marijuana is not a performance-enhancing drug. It's also now legal in some states, and quasi-legal in others, including Florida. So it's an unfair approach to athletes and programs in those states. Why in hell would we want to lose Gator players over something like that???

Maybe you should read more thoroughly (and try to absorb what you're reading) in the future. Because, frankly, you're completely off base.

Lost in all this is that I find myself in agreement with most of your posts — all you gotta do is keep your politics to yourself and we will do just fine.

And you will lose less arguments

Right? I almost always agree with his football related posts, but I’m not sure why he won’t just let this go. This ain’t Too Hot, so how about we just move on. ‍

Tough call. Im usually a ‘more freedom is better’ kind of person, but I’m on the fence about this tbh. As someone else mentioned, it would/could be a safety concern, and not just from a player perspective. Weed these days is a lot stronger than it used to be, and especially with regard to mental health, I’m not sure we fully understand its real influence on a developing brain (college kids).

With regard to the NCAA, I can see that its (past) prohibitive stance being a way to level the playing field. It was not allowed. Removing the ban would leave it up to schools/states and this may create an imbalance where some schools are against and some are for.

If it plays out like this, it could affect where a student athlete that smokes weed decides to go. Law of unintended consequences I guess.

If anyone injects politics in a sports thread, it will be addressed.

From now on, if anyone does more than report the injection of politics in a sports thread . . . as in discussing whether the position is right or wrong . . . that will be viewed the same.

We all know where politics is discussed and it isn't Swamp Gas. C'mon please.
