With 5 people in an area that small, the craft would have to be equipped with one or more CO2 scrubbers. No idea as to their capacity(ies.) Agree as to the source of the sounds..they don't know if it's them. The game controllers were supposedly selected due to their reliability and ability to withstand rough handling. Several backups are on board.
But the 94 hours beforehand have to be excruciating torture. I used to dabble in extreme sports and a did very dumb things like going windsurfing 7 miles off Marathon with a buddy, but there needs to be some limit on companies offering this sort of stuff.
I just want to know who’s footing the bill for the search and rescue efforts. Better not be our tax dollars at work.
Now is not the time to joke and jest about this circumstance imo. I would never choose to do what they did. It is pretty obvious the outcome. Let’s hope a miracle happens like the kids from the Amazon plane crash recently that incredibly survived 40 days… Mother of 4 children lost in Amazon for 40 days initially survived plane crash, oldest sibling says
Could have gotten stuck in or on wreckage, I suppose, in which case an emergency surface would not work.
There may be heart rending writing and videos left behind if they were alive during the 96 hours and the sub is ever recovered.
It surely is our tax dollars at work. And unlike you, who would have to reimburse 5 figures for an ambulance ride to the hospital, I bet nobody will pay back the govt for the 9 figures probably being spent on this search. It’s quite mad when you think about it. Did you even know a migrant ship sank off the coast of Greece this week, killing hundreds? I wonder, how do the “rescue efforts” for that tragedy compare to the resources dumped into finding this idiot and his “adventurous” passengers?
What’s the temperature at -13000 feet beneath the sea and how does the cabin withstand those temps for 4 days. Seems they might freeze to death before the oxygen runs out.
not sure that's a good thing at this pt. what a horrible way to go. edit. just looked it up. cold increases metabolism. that tracks as I spend a LOT of time outdoors in pretty cold weather.
I would think anything designed to withstand that much pressure was also well insulated. And their bodies would be generating a lot of shared heat. I think freezing to death would be relatively low on the list of concerns.
It is kind of strange but the same cousin I posted about the other day that shot his wife in the 90s and shot himself in 2004 also had a diving accident. I mentioned he was an Airborne Ranger in the service then a LEO later. While he was an LEO he was on the Sheriffs search & rescue dive team. It was back in the 80s and I got a call from his mother, my aunt saying they were airlifting him to Orlando and would I meet him at the hospital. Seems ORMC had the only hyperbolic chamber in Central Florida at the time. When he got here they asked me if I wanted to go into the chamber with him and the nurses..... I said no thank you I will wait for him outside. Anyway it is sort of wild that someone with his training would have two gun accidents and a diving accident in the same lifetime...... Like I said in the other thread Joel was a heavy drinker, I have to wonder how much drinking had to do with his judgement.
