I am not a lawyer, but I would think that them knowing there were issues that were not addressed would override many of those waivers. They didn’t make a best effort to keep people safe.

Just read the viewport was only certified 1300 meters. Supposedly an employee was fired for raising concerns about this and other issues over costs.

Here's what James Cameron has said about diving to the Titanic wreckage | CNN

This is what stood out: “Here I am in the most remote place on planet Earth that’s taken all this time and energy and technology to reach and I feel like the most solitary human being on the planet, completely cut off from humanity, no chance of rescue in a place no human eyes have ever seen,” Cameron said. “And my wife calls me. Which of course was very sweet.”

How was she able to call him if this other craft relies on text communication at that depth? Am I reading this wrong?

If they really are all stuck in there waiting for the air to run out, just imagine how annoying that billionaire's 19 year old son is being.

The arguments are worse than what happens in here.

    Understand what you you mean.
I imagine being stuck with one of the Roy children (other than Shiv; goes without say). The good news is, as soon as it became clear that not all of us will make it, I’m taking out the most obvious oxygen thief myself. For the good of the group, of course. ;)

At titanic depths, you have near-zero visibility, compounded by poor maneuverability of salvage-capable submersibles operating at that depth. Unless you know where the sub is, the odds of dropping salvage equipment and seeing it would be like finding a needle in a haystack. This is why the sonar is so important in locating it so rescue/salvage can even be attempted. The best case scenario was for a plane to spot the sub floating at the surface. Second best is sound/transmission that helps locate it. Randomly finding it at depth is practically impossible. :(

James Cameron was in a different craft, not the one that's currently missing.

I understand that, but I read that at that depth, communications rely on sonar.

Not just air, but heat, assuming mechanical issues and not a breach

Sounds man made to me. And it immediately follows that ping of active SONAR you hear, which any living people in the submarine would also hear.

Could be the worst possible outcome. They suffocate slowly while banging for help and hearing the rescue search for them but be unable to raise them in time - if at all

That they're banging indicates that they have hope. Better to die with a vestige of hope, than in complete despair.

(....which could be the case if the banging is someone's head against the wall--by them, or by another.... not trying to be morbid, just saying).

But it sounds more like the former.

    Prayers up!

I don't think it's as bad as people think when you run out of air slowly. It's not the same thing as a drowning and even then it's a few awful seconds before you go unconscious. Many many worse ways to die in my opinion.

Looks like the "banging" tweet from above was deleted?

It could only help him if they attempt to serve him with a lawsuit while he is down under, in the off chance they find a lawyer with elite swimming skills.

I'm not going to make any jokes about this situation.

    That would be beneath me.
